Universal is continuing to add new versions of their classic Universal Monster franchise. Deadline is reporting that a new movie that centers on Van Helsing is now in the works. Horror heavy hitter James Wan (The Conjuring) will be producing the movie with Overlord‘s Julius Avery in the director’s chair. Eric Pearson wrote the original script, which Avery is rewriting. Van Helsing has long been the mortal enemy of Dracula and hunts down and slays monsters of all kinds. First mentioned in Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1897, the character was played by Anthony Hopkins in 1992’s film adaptation by director Francis Ford Coppola. Hugh Jackman starred in the role in 2004’s Van Helsing written and directed by Stephen Sommers. Syfy’s series also featured a Van Helsing, this time it was Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), the descendent of Abraham Van Helsing. There is no word yet about who will star in the new film. An Exclusive Indepth Interview With Tony Award Winner Shuler Hensley

You don’t know this, but the only thing I love as much as horror are musicals, so when I got the opportunity to talk to actor, Tony Award-winner, and Broadway star Shuler Hensley I jumped at the chance. Known for his roles in films like Van Helsing, Odd Thomas, The Greatest Showman, “The OA”, and Cruiser as well as Broadway musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Young Frankenstein, and Oklahoma, Shuler filled us in on a little of everything. I not only talked with Hensley about his role in the 2004 horror film Van Helsing but also Cruiser, the indie horror thriller from director Randy Ser and writer Sam Hensley Jr. The film follows a killer (Hensley) who after murdering a cop, steals his patrol car and sets off on a night of carnage and terror in a small Georgia town. Horror Fuel: “I really want to talk to you about your film career, but first, I have to

‘Van Helsing’ Reboot Reportedly Has Chosen It’s Star

The “Dark Universe” didn’t exactly get off to a good start with The Mummy, but Universal won’t let the franchise die, with everything from The Wolfman to The Hunchback of Notre Dame getting adaptations. I’d be more shocked than Frankenstein’s Monster if even half these films actually get made, but who knows, I’m no fortune teller. Out of the five or six films slated to come out, the only one I really felt any amount of excitement for was Van Helsing. The whole concept of an international monster hunter is a neat idea, and the 2004 adaptation didn’t really do the concept justice. Well that excitement’s sunk into the Black Lagoon with the announcement that Magic Mike pretty boy Channing Tatum is reportedly up for the role. Best known for being the worst part of The Hateful Eight and being the most meh part of 21 Jump Street, Tatum’s casting shows both that Universal hasn’t learned dick from The Mummy

Universal Hunts Down New Writer For Van Helsing

News comes today that there has been a change involving the reboot of ‘Van Helsing’, part of their new shared monster universe. The new version of ‘Van Helsing’ was originally written by Eric Heisserer, the writer behind 2016’s sci-fi hit ‘Arrival’, ‘Lights Out’ and 2011’s ‘The Thing’, and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange). Now, ‘Wrath of the Titans’ scribe Dan Mazeau will be taking over writing duties. There has been no word yet on why the change has been made. The character of Abraham Van Helsing originally appeared in Bram Stoker’s classic novel ‘Dracula’ back in 1897. Part fearless vampire hunter, part occultist and part doctor. Over centuries, the character has be reimagined and updated. A perfect example of his evolution is the Van Helsing we met in the 2004 film by the same name. In the films and novels where he has been mentioned, it is always as a hunter of evil. Heisserer’s vision for the film was something dark
