Loretta Devine Talks The Magic And The Horrors Of ‘Spell’ In Our Interview

When you hear certain actresses’ names, you know they will bring prestige to any film or series they star—actresses with an incredible talent that never fails to impress. Loretta Devine is one of those actresses. I’ve followed her career from Waiting to Exhale to the Urban Legend franchise, “Supernatural,” and everything in between. That includes her most recent role in the supernatural horror Spell from director Mark Tonderai and writer Kurt Wimmer. In Spell, Omari Hardwick stars as Marquis. He and his family leave the big city aboard his plane to return to the Tennesse mountains, where he was born, for his father’s funeral. When the plane is caught in a terrible storm, it crashes. Marquis wakes to find that he’s in the attic of Eloise (Mrs. Devine) and her husband, not knowing where his family is or that Eloise isn’t the kind of southern woman he thinks she is. Serious “root magic” is at play here that will change

‘Urban Legends’ Getting A Reboot

The latest genre film in line for a reboot is 1998’s Urban Legend. Screen Gems has announced that Colin Minihan (What Keeps You Alive) will be in the director’s chair for the new film which has now begun the casting process. The original, directed by Jamie Blanks, followed a group of college students who start seeing their classmates and BFFs killed off one by one by a murderer in a parka with each death echoing classic Urban Legends. The reboot will be an updated version set in the digital age and the Urban Legends that are active now. And there’s a lot of them to choose from. “The movie will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.” We can’t help but wonder if any actors from the original will make a cameo. The cast included Jared Leto, Alicia Witt,

Petition To Halt Release Of ‘Slender Man’ Movie Gains Momentum

A new online petition is calling for SONY Studios to halt the release of their upcoming horror movie Slender Man citing the incident that made headlines back in 2014 when Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, both 12 years old at the time, tried to murder a friend and fellow classmate, Payton Leutner also age 12. The motive behind the attack that stunned their hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin was that they wanted to become “proxies” to the fictional character Slender Man and prove their loyalty to him so their families will be spared by him. One of the film’s biggest critics and is said to have signed the petition himself is Anissa Weier’s father who calls the film “extremely distasteful” due to the fact that three families have been affected by this fictional character. Weier was sentenced to 25 years in a Mental Health facility after pleading guilty and subsequently found not guilty due to mental illness by a jury, Her

The World Of Urban Legends: Pinky Pinky

There are countless urban legends or myths that litter our lives with fear. Things like Bloody Mary of the phone call to the babysitter coming from inside the house. I love these tales. But I find that the most terrifying ones come from other countries. I don’t know if they are more terrifying because of the actual content or just because they seem new and are more unknown to us. Take, for instance, the South African urban legend of Pinky Pinky. This is a tale of a specter or spirit or monster who lives in the girls bathrooms at schools. As the tale goes, if you wear pink you upset the monster and he does all manner of foul things to the offending girls including injuries, murder and rape. The creature, according to the many sightings back in the early ‘90s, has one hand that is a paw and the other a claw. It resembles another African monster called Tokoloshe

DreamWorks Making A Film Inspired By The Urban Legend Of Cropsey

According to Variety, DreamWorks together with Frank Marshall are developing a film inspired by the Urban Legend of “Cropsey” . In the 1970’s Cropsey became a real life boogeyman who is blamed for the disappearance of seven children around Staten Island. Cropsey is believed to live in the woods surrounding the Willowbrook mental institution as well as living in the tunnels underneath the hospital. Willowbrook was closed in 1987 after a disturbing expose by Geraldo Rivera titled ‘Willowbrook: The Last Great Disgrace‘ exposed the horrid conditions that the patients were living in. Eventually a drifter named Andre Rand was arrested and tried in connection to the disappearances. In Dreamworks’ version of ‘Cropsey’ a group of kids at summer camp are haunted by the legend that dates back to the Colonial period. Richard Naig and Ian Goldberg are set to pen the script for the film. Naig and Goldberg have teamed up before. The duo wrote the script for the ‘Friday
