The Infected: Jim’s First Day by Joseph Zuko

Review: The Infected: Jim’s First Day by Joseph ‘Zombie’ Zuko On a day like any other, Jim Blackmore finds himself at ground zero of the zombie apocalypse. He is forced to run a blood-soaked gauntlet through a city overrun by an insurmountable horde of the dead in a desperate attempt to reach his wife and two small children. As he fights to get home he discovers that the living are just as dangerous as the dead. But does Jim have the strength of will to survive the perilous journey? After reading over two dozen zombie books, comics, and short stories for you lovely readers of Zombie Apocalypse Defense Force and for my own amusement, I’ve begun to get a solid feel for whether or not the author of any given zombie book has been a long time zombie fan or if they have simply jumped on the bandwagon to sneak a taste of a popular horror niche’s appeal. (I have

Author Interview: John L. Davis of American Revenant Series

I’m doing something a bit different this week. Rather than posting a book review, I’m sharing an interview I had the opportunity to do for Gores Truly with author John L. Davis of the American Revenant series. He agreed to chat with me regarding the American Revenant series, and offered to give us some insight into himself, his process, and what we can expect from this shining new author in the future. If you are unfamiliar with Davis’ work, you can find a review of his debut novel American Revenant: Hometown Exodus. The series is set in Hannibal, MO and features a community of people who band together to survive a zombie apocalypse. It is honestly one of the best zombie series’ I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a long time, and I would encourage you to check it out if you haven’t. American Revenant: Hometown Exodus and American Revenant: Settlers and Sorrow are both available for Kindle download.

“Women in Horror Spotlight”: Kathryn Bigelow

Odds are that if you are familiar with director/producer/writer Kathryn Bigelow it will be for her Drama/Thriller pieces like K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) starring Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson, or for her outstanding work on The Hurt Locker (2008) for which she was the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Director, she won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Direction, and she also earned the Critics Choice Award for Best Director. (This is on top of the awards that the film won on its own.) She is also the directorial force behind the recent blockbuster, Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The reason why Bigelow has earned a nod here is due to a western horror film she wrote and directed in 1987 towards the beginning of her career. The film was called New Dark and was about a small town farmer’s son who is turned into a vampire

Darlings of Decay – a Zombie Anthology

Aside: In honor of Women in Horror Month I will be reviewing a book or comic written by female authors or which prominently featuring female characters for each Monday in the month of February. There are plenty! This spotlight for female writers/characters in books and comics will be in addition to each of the Women in Horror Spotlights we are doing here at ZADF each day in February. (…and of course, this is also in addition to the sheer awesome Capt. McNeely and I contribute to the horror genre on a daily and weekly basis both on ZADF and beyond! ; ) ) At the bottom of each book review I will have links to the books discussed in previous weeks so that you can see who else has been featured! This week’s featured book is special because it is a zombie story anthology which features the work of thirty-two different female authors, which is what made it a strong

“Women In Horror Month” Spotlight: Jennifer Kent

“If it’s in a word, or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of…” If you recognize those words or better yet, can complete the phrase then you have heard of today’s Women In Horror Month Spotlight! Jennifer Kent was the writer and director of the widely acclaimed and incredibly popular film The Babadook which is set to release on DVD and Blu-Ray this April. (So yes, to answer your question. That is the woman responsible for the reason you can’t sleep at night.) Although she is obviously a contemporary representative of women in horror, she is a great example of why women can excel in all aspects of film making, especially in horror genres. This is great news for aspiring actors and film makers – it’s comforting to know it isn’t all shrieking at the top of your lungs and getting stabbed! (Or beheaded, or haunted, or possessed… Whatever the villain’s personal shtick is.) To see more projects

Zombie Rules by David Achord

Zach Gunderson’s life sucked and then the zombie apocalypse began. Rick, an aging Vietnam veteran, alcoholic, and prepper, convinces Zach that the apocalypse is on the horizon. The two of them take refuge at a remote farm. As the zombie plague rages, they face a terrifying fight for survival. They soon learn however that the walking dead are not the only monsters. Originaltiy 5/5 & Entertainment 5/5 In Zombie Rules David Achord successfully executes the premise that you are reading a zombie novel told from the perspective of a teenager. What makes this particular book unique, aside from the perspective itself, are the events which unfold. Zach’s world collapses shortly before the rest of the world follows suit. Eight of the initial chapters are spent following Zach through his every day life and establishing that he does in fact have prime reason to be miserable. His parents are dead, his grandmother falls ill suddenly after a stroke and passes shortly

An Interview With KRUEL’s Director Robert Henderson

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Robert Henderson, the director of Sunset Studios’ new indie movie KRUEL, a horror/thriller about an obsessed psychotic ice cream man who stalks and abducts a young woman. KRUEL will be in select theaters May 29, 2015. You can read the full article about KRUEL here: https://horrorfuel.com/horror/reviews-horror/a-first-look-at-kruel-2015 “Writer/director Robert Henderson fell in love with movies at a young age, in large part due to his mother’s (a former stage actor) love for everything entertainment. Before her death at a relatively early age, he promised her he would one day succeed in the passion they both shared. After attending the University of Colorado, where he studied theater as a minor, he began to pursue his passion as an actor and eventual screen writer. He co-wrote the drama To Heir is Human which was directed by his brother. He almost got his first big break when Universal Studios accepted his western script Come Hell or High-water

An Interview With Young Actress Talia Dobbins Of The Sacrament

This past weekend I had the pleasure of talking with Ms. Talia Dobbins, an extremely talented, funny and well spoken young lady. Talia has already had an impressive acting career . She is a true professional, to be so young. Talia’s latest film role was in The Sacrament, directed and written by Ti West. The Sacrament is a dark thriller about a man who travels to the remote location of Eden Parish, to find his sister. The movie is loosely based on the story of Jim Jones, a charismatic church leader who’s life ends with the mass suicide of 918 people. Talia has had many other roles, in a long list of movies including A Better Life, 5 Minutes (2012) , Where the Mangos Grow (2013), Eat (2012), The Gift and several movies by The Savannah Collage of Art and Design .
