Daniel Kraus Discusses Co-Writing George A. Romero’s Last Novel ‘The Living Dead’

You don’t get more prolific in the zombie genre than writer-director George A. Romero. When you hear the word zombie, his name comes to mind. Sadly, we lost Romero when he passed away on July 16, 2017. But July 16 left behind several projects, including the half-written novel The Living Dead. Romero’s widow wanted to see the novel complete, so she reached out to best-selling novelist Daniel Kraus, the same author who co-wrote The Shape of Water with Guillermo del Toro. Now, after years of work, the novel is complete and soon to be released. I sat down with Kraus to talk about The Living Dead and the process of bringing George A. Romero’s final body of work to his fans and the world. Kraus has a long record of delivering brilliant novels, including Trollhunters, adapted for the Netflix series Scowler, Rotters, and so many more. He expressed how honored he was to co-write the novel, and I think he

New George A. Romero Novel Surfaces: The Living Dead

On July 16, 2017, the horror genre said goodbye to one of the world’s most iconic filmmakers, George A. Romero. As fans mourned many came to the realization that we would never see another book or film from the godfather of the zombie genre. As three years passed, the world had no idea that a new body of work from Romero would surface. After the filmmaker’s death his widow and agent stumbled across a partially written book. After reading it, they reached out to New York Best Seller Daniel Kraus, the author who had teamed up with Guillermo del Toro to write both The Shape of Water and Trollhunters which both earned adaptations. Kraus set out to finish Romero’s novel The Living Dead. We asked Kraus about the process of properly capturing Romero’s vision. …studying all his films, screenplays, interviews, interviewing people who knew him, long talks with his wife, then reading critical analysis of his work. Finally, I got

George A. Romero’s Unfinshed Novel Will Be Completed By ‘Shape Of Water’ Writer

Before Master of Horror George A. Romero passed away last year he was working on a new novel about, you guessed it, zombies. Titled The Living Dead, the novel was meant to transition Romero’s zombie tales from the big screen to print. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish The Living Dead before he passed, but like his beloved zombies, the book will rise from the dead. EW is reporting that The Shape of Water writer Daniel Kraus has signed on to complete the novel which will be released in the Fall of 2019, via Tor. What’s exciting about the novel…It’s huge. It’s a massively scaled story, a real epic, the kind no one ever gave him the budget to film,” Kraus told EW. “In a book, of course, there is no budget, and in his pages you can feel his joy of being able, at last, to do every single thing he wanted.” He continued. “TThe state [of the

Horror Racks Up Nominations At The Oscars

After years of being ignored, the horror genre is finally getting the recognition it deserves and racking up nominations at the 2018 Academy Awards with The Shape of Water and Get Out leading the way. Jordan Peele’s socially conscious genre thriller Get Out is nominated for Best Director, Best Picture, Lead Actor (Daniel Ksluuya), and Best Original Screenplay. When Peele heard the news he tweeted, “I just spoke to Daniel. You know when you’re on the phone trying to disguise the sound of an ugly cry? I failed at that.” Who can blame him? Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water is also in the running for Best Picture and Original Screenplay, as well as a horde of other awards including Lead Actress (Sally Hawkins), Supporting Actor (Richard Jenkins), Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer), Best Director, Cinematography, Film Editing (Sidney Wolinsky), Sound Editing (Nathan Robitaille, Nelson Ferreira), Sound Mixing (Glen Gauthier, Christian Cooke, Brad Zoern), Production Design (Paul D. Guillermo Del Toro Accused Of Stealing The Plot For ‘The Shape Of Water’

There are rumors and accusations flying that Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, the most nominated movie of 2018, is plagiarized. It’s a terrible accusation if it’s false, but if it’s true, it’s disgraceful. So here’s the situation… It all began with Reddit users pointing out the similarities between The Shape of Water and a 2015 student film from the Netherlands Film Acadamy titled The Space Between Us. Both plots center on a woman cleaning a research facility, both feature an aquatic man/love interest, both are love stories. The Space Between Us takes place in a post-nuclear era where the air has become so polluted that it’s lethal. In the film, a cleaning woman named Juliett falls for Adam, a captive merman. The film was written and directed by Marc S. Nollkaemper and stars Elsa May Averill, Adrian Brine, Jurandy Martien, and Kiefer Zwart as the creature, Adam. The Shape of Water is set in the 1950s in a research

“The Shape of Water” Get’s Theatrical Release December 1rst

Despite being having of cinema’s most unique and wonderful minds, Guillermo Del Toro has had some rotten luck in recent years getting his projects off the ground. “Pacific Rim 2”? Given to another director. “Hellboy 3”? Unceremoniously rebooted. “The Hobbit” series? Well, del Toro had the good sense to quit that steaming heap himself. All his work is not for naught however, as his new film, “The Shape of Water” has been absolutely swimming in critical praise. Starring a Sally Hawkins mute woman with a kink for gills, “The Shape of Water” is a unique love story, between two outcasts of society, one of whom just so happens to live underwater. For anyone worried this sounds like some kind of mushy gushy disney film, have no fear; the MPAA has rated the film R for “sexual content, graphic nudity, violence and language.” Del Toro is known for his rather twisted and beautiful takes on fantasy settings (if you haven’t seen
