‘Meg 2’ Director Describes The Sequel As Being On An “Insanely Large Scale”

Back in 2018, The Meg (review) was unleashed. Now, the sequel is swimming towards us. Director Ben Whaetley (Kill List, High Rise, Rebecca) recently gave an update on the film that is said to be working with a $130-$180 budget. During a discussion with comicbook.com, the director had this to say: “A lot of it is respecting The Meg, and trying to make sure it’s a great Meg film. And as you can see from the movies I’ve made, they’re not necessarily … when you go and do Doctor Who, I don’t completely change it because I wanted to do it. I didn’t want to necessarily make it something completely different that nobody recognized, you know? So there’s that element of back and forth.” He continued, “But it’s an opportunity to do action on such an insanely large scale, that it’s just unbelievable. From doing Free Fire, which was all my Christmases came at once in terms of action, this

‘The Meg 2’ Has Caught A Director

Earlier this week I sat down for an interview with best-selling author Steve Alten, the writer behind The Meg book series, which inspired the 2018 movie of the same name, starring Jason Statham. Alten informed us that the sequel was entering production. Today we can report that Kill List, High-Rise, and Rebecca director Ben Wheatley has now come on board to direct The Meg 2, which Alten describes as “much darker.” The news came from THR who also reports that Jason Statham is expected to return in a capacity that is “creatively involved,” with the movie adapted by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. There is no word yet if anyone else is returning to reprise their roles. The Meg sunk its teeth into box offices bringing in over $500 million worldwide. Statham played the role of Jonas Taylor, who came to the aid of a group of scientists that accidentally set free a Megladon from the Marian

Meg Author Steve Alten Talks Sharks, New Series, Movies, And His New Interactive Site

Steve Alten, that’s a name most people are familiar with. He’s the best-selling author that brought us the Meg series which was adapted for the big-budget 2018 movie The Meg starring Jason Statham as well as the upcoming sequel. He also has an amazing new interactive website Sea Monster Cove that puts you in the water with ancient sea monsters, features a new exclusive web series, a video game, and a library of Alten’s novels, all for $9.95 a month. It’s continually evolving and adding new aquariums, new monsters, new books, and new series episodes. Before I sat down with Alten for an interview I explored the site, called Sea Monster Cove. I dove into the cove to cage dive with giant Makos and other sea monsters you wouldn’t want to run into. It was quite fantastic. Horror Fuel: “I’m a big fan of Meg. I love anything to do with sharks. Where does your fascination with sharks and ancient

Writing Has Begun On Giant Shark Movie ‘The Meg 2’

Last summer Jason Statham went head to head with a Megladon in Meg (review). Not long after Meg opened in theaters it was announced that a sequel was in the works. During a recent press junket for the upcoming reboot of Pet Sematary Cinemablend asked producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura for details about where the sequel stands. Bonaventura stated that what’s important is that the sequel, simply titled The Meg 2, have a good script which is currently being written. We’re working on a script. Yeah. So you never know until you get a good script…I was very thankful that the audience got that we were just trying to have fun, [and] not take ourselves seriously at all. Back in October at the U.S.-China Entertainment Summit in L.A. executive producer Catherine Xujun Ying made the following statement: [A sequel is] definitely the plan. It’s still in the very early stages, but we’re working on it. We’re trying to keep it secret

Get Ready To Sink Your Teeth Into ‘The Meg 2’

The Meg (review) made waves earlier this year bringing in $527.7 million at box offices worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that the second installment is circling and getting ready to swim into production. Producer Catherine Xujun Ying and star Jason Statham have confirmed that the movie is coming. Both Statham and Bingbing Li are returning for the sequel. It’s still in the very early stages, but we’re working on it.” As for what the next movie will be about, Yung couldn’t reveal any specifics and only added, “We’re trying to keep it secret at this time.” With that being said, a giant prehistoric shark, or two, will more than likely be involved.” Ying has said. The Meg was based on Steve Alten’s 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. Alten has already published seven other books in the series meaning we could see a lot more of the franchise. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t love giant sharks and

Movie Review: The Meg

Out of the big blockbuster films of 2018, one of the films I’ve most looked forward to seeing was The Meg. I’m a sucker for sharks and even have a few Megladon teeth in my collection. So, when The Meg arrived on Blu-ray this week I was psyched to finally get my hands on a copy. I had high hopes for the movie from the first time I learned that it was coming and I was not disappointed. The film opens with action star Jason Statham on a mission to rescue sailors from a sub. Unfortunately, he had to leave a few men behind t save the life of those already on the rescue vessel. Just as the rescue sub pulls away something big hits the wrecked sub and blows it up. Blamed by his co-workers for the lost lives of the men he left behind Statham’s character Jonas trades in his life for a life of intoxication. His permanent

‘The Meg’ Sinks Its Teeth Into A New Poster And Featurette

The Meg has unleashed a massive treat for fans awaiting it’s August arrival in theaters, a new featurette that includes new footage, a behind-the-scenes look, and a brand new poster (above). From director Jon Turteltaub, based on novel series by Steve Alten, The Meg follows “A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own

‘Slender Man’ To Face ‘The Meg’

In what seems to be a dicey move Sony Pictures has changed the release date of Slender Man putting it directly in the path of New Line’s The Meg, one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year. Sony’s relationship with Slender Man has been strained from the get-go. Back in May, the producers of the film were shopping it around to other studios and streaming services after producers and Sony had disagreements about the studio’s release strategy, Bloody Disgusting reports. Reportedly, the date was changed in hopes of snagging teen moviegoers while they are still on summer break. Directed by Sylvian White, Slender Man centers on the tall, featureless figure born from a Something Awful story contest entry by Victor Surge. After finding its way to Creepypasta the entity took on a life of its own. Set in a small town in Massachusetts, the film centers on four high school girls who perform a ritual in an attempt to
