Horror Fuel.com’s Top 10 Film Festival Horror Movies of 2021

This year was an outstanding one for horror films making the film festival rounds, which is where I see most of my movies each year. Thankfully, many films are making it to wider release quicker than in the past — for example, my #1 film of 2021 is already available on VOD, and several of my honorable mentions are on streaming services or on DVD or Blu-ray. Keep the following films in mind because some of them just may be future favorites for you in 2022! 1. The Feast (Wales) Director Lee Haven Jones’ Welsh outing The Feast — a blend of folk, psychological, environmental, and supernatural horror — instantly became my favorite film of the year, regardless of genre, when I saw it as part of SXSW Online 2021 in March. In my Horror Fuel review, I said that The Feast is an “eerie slice of horror cinema that jangles the nerves and does a beautiful job of slowly

Welsh Horror ‘The Feast’ Unveils A Tasty Yet Terrifying New Trailer

From director Lee Haven Jones comes the Welsh horror The Feast, starring Annes Elwy, Lisa Palfrey, and Caroline Berry. Dubbed by critics as a “scathing modern folk-horror”, the film made its premiere in the Midnighters section of this year’s SXSW Film Festival to critical acclaim. Filmed entirely in the Welsh language and entrenched in traditional folklore, The Feast follows a mysterious young woman who arrives to serve affluent guests at a dinner party in a remote house in the Welsh mountains. What the privileged guests do not realize is that they are about to partake in their last supper. As the tension mounts, you’ll be left on the edge of your seat until the film’s final minutes. The Feast is a horrifyingly captivating fable that grapples with themes of greed, class, and privilege. The film was shot amidst the breathtaking Welsh countryside, allowing for deep contemplation of the film’s eco-horror message: who is truly entitled to the Earth and all

New Image Will Whet Your Appetite For ‘The Feast,’ Coming This Thanksgiving

IFC Midnight announced today that they are acquiring North American rights to the Welsh-language supernatural revenge horror The Feast, directed by BAFTA-winning television director Lee Haven Jones who is making his feature debut. “Rooted in the potent mythical fables of Wales, The Feast unfolds over the course of a single evening as a wealthy family gathers at their lavish home in the Welsh mountains for a dinner party, hosting a local businessman and neighboring farmer to broker a business deal to mine the surrounding countryside. When a mysterious young woman arrives to be their waitress for the evening, the family’s beliefs and values are challenged as her quiet yet disturbing presence begins to unravel their lives – slowly, deliberately, and with the most terrifying of consequences. A slow-burn meditation on history and tradition, greed and responsibility, identity and difference, The Feast is a contemporary morality tale that questions who is truly meant to inherit the earth, permeated with a mounting

Movie Review (SXSW Online 2021): The Feast

Welsh shocker The Feast is an unsettling, eerie slice of horror cinema that jangles the nerves and does a beautiful job of slowly unraveling its secrets until its mind-boggling third act sticks the landing. This is instant classic fright fare, and the film will be hard to topple from its current spot as my favorite horror movie of this year. Food server Cadi (Annes Elwy in a superb performance) is filling in for the woman who usually helps Glenda (Nia Roberts), the wife of politician Gwyn (Julian Lewis Jones), prepare dinners for guests in the couple’s sumptuous, high-tech country home. Invited to dinner are businessman Euros (Rhodri Mielir) and neighbor Delyth (Caroline Berry), and reluctant to attend are the couple’s oldest son Gweirydd (Sion Alun Davies), who is preparing for a triathlon when not displaying perverse behavior, and Guto (Steffan Cennydd), a drug-addicted would-be musician. The events of The Feast unfold over the course of one evening, from preparation time
