Bring Home ‘The Cured’ This Summer

Writer-director David Freyne‘s The Cured, starring Ellen Page (Inception), is headed to Blu-ray and DVS this Summer from IFC Midnight. In the film, “The world has been ravaged for years by a virus that turns the infected into zombie-like cannibals until a cure is at last found and the wrenching process of reintegrating the survivors back into society begins. Among the formerly afflicted is Senan (Sam Keeley, This Must Be The Place), a young man haunted by the horrific acts he committed while infected. Welcomed back into the family of his widowed sister-in-law (Ellen Page, Juno), Senan attempts to restart his life — but is society ready to forgive him and those like him? Or will fear and prejudice once again tear the world apart? Pulsing with provocative parallels to our troubled times, The Cured is a smart, scary, and a hauntingly human tale of guilt and redemption. Page stars along with Sam Keeley (Anthropoid, In the Heart of the

Trailer for ‘The Cured’ Seems Familiar…

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead! I’m a fan of zombies, I’m a fan of movies, so, therefore, I’m a fan of (a good) zombie movie. When I heard about a new movie starring Ellen Page coming out called The Cured about zombies that were cured and trying to re-enter society, I thought, “Oh they made In the Flesh into a movie?” but after seeing the trailer and reading what critics are saying, I’ll be honest I was shocked. Many are hailing the upcoming Irish film as “original” and “unique” but what I saw is a copy of an original. Over time many zombie films have had little moments where zombies act human again or show signs that they remember a small part of themselves, granted usually for dramatic effect before they are killed right before the eyes of a past loved one. In 2013 there was Warm Bodies, a horror rom-com about a zombie falling in love with a human girl
