After Neill Blomkamp‘s failed attempt at adding a fifth installment to the ‘Alien’ franchise, the visionary sci-fi director announced the creation of his own film production company, Oats Studios. The first offering from the studio is the short ‘Rakka’, a gritty, post-apocalyptic alien invasion film set in the near future. The film opens somewhere in Texas, in the year 2020. From the outset, each frame absolutely oozes an ultra-bleak, dystopian atmosphere. The world as we know it is no more; in its place is a brutal hellscape in which nearly all of humanity (well, what’s left of it anyhow) is enslaved by a barbaric, if highly advanced species of reptilian extraterrestrials. The aliens erect monolithic mega structures used to generate an atmosphere suitable for their crops and breathing needs, and treat humans as test subjects, or pests to be eliminated. Though primitive in appearance, the aliens seem to possess telekinetic and telepathic abilities, allowing them to use mind control to

It seems that we will never see Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. The good news is, the director announced back in April that he and his Banner, Oats Studios, would be releasing a series of experimental short films via Stream. Now, the trailer for Volume 1 is here and it is fantastic. In the trailer we see our world taken over by aliens and humanity fighting for survival. The new reality is adapt or die. If you watch closely, you will even get a quick glimpse of Sigourney Weaver, that’s right, Ripley herself. Greetings, my Little Xenomorphs. Yes, I know you’re all accustomed to the moniker of Little Monsters, but today is the 26th of April or 4/26, thus making it ALIEN DAY! I trust I don’t need to explain the relevance of the number combination in relation to the movie Alien. BUT, for those of you who don’t know, it’s a reference to the planet, known as LV-426, where the crew of the star-freighter Nostromo first encountered the facehugger that “impregnated” Ash (played by the late great John Hurt). OK, that’s enough of that, because we’re here to focus on TWO wonderful Women of Horror today. That’s right, count ’em…one, two. As you can clearly see, the focus today is on the only two female female cast members of Ridley Scott’s classic 1979 film, Alien – Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver. Both of these ladies would grace the world with their presence in 1949. Veronica A. Cartwright was born on April 20th

We have all heard the rumor that Ripley is somehow tied to Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Today, Fox released a new featurette for Covenant, and unless it’s just wishful thinking, the voice of the computer system, known as MU/TH/UR 6000 aka “Mother”, sounds very familiar. If we are right, the voice belongs to none other Sigourney Weaver, known for playing the iconic role of Ripley in Alien and Aliens. So, how could that be? Bloody-Disgusting points out that Prometheus took place in 2093, fast forward 10 years to when Covenant is set, followed by Alien, which was set in 2122. Here’s where things get interesting, Katherine Waterston plays the new role of Daniels in Alien: Covenant and rumor is, Daniels is actually Ripley’s mother. Ridley Scott kind of shot down the rumor (but not really). So, is it possible? Yes it is. According to IMDb, Weaver is still reprising her role as Ellen Ripley in the still untitled Alien project

Neil Blumkamp’s sequel stars Sigourney, who will be reprising her role as Ripley. Michael Biehn is back too, as Corporal Hicks in Alien V. You may be scratching your head, wondering how Weaver’s character will return for the new film. According to Weaver, the film will act as a direct sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 classic. Which means Ripley and Hicks are still alive. It’s just as if the path forks and one direction off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neil’s movie,” Weaver stated.. Alien: Covenant follows a ship bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy.
