“The Shape of Water” Gets The Funko Pop Treatment

As part of their unending quest to make Pop figures of every single franchise that has ever existed, Funko will turn characters from The Shape of Water into their signature big eyed toys. Right now three have been announced; deaf protagonist Eliza, her Amphibian lover, and Shape of Water director Guillmerro Del Toro himself. I didn’t know I needed an Del Toro fashion figure until I saw one, but now I’m in love. Here’s hoping Funko does all the famous directors; I’d love to carry around a miniature Tarantino.

Is This The End Of Universal’s Dark Universe?

Just 5 months after Universal released the first teaser image of some of the stars of their upcoming new Dark Universe film franchise the duo of Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, hired to be the architects of the universe, have exited the project according to THR. The teaser included A-list actors like Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Russel Crowe and was meant to hook fans on the revival of characters like the Invisible Man, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Unfortunately, none of the planned remakes looks to still be alive and kicking. Universal even halted the filming of Bride of Frankenstein which had already begun production in London. Reportedly, the halt was due to execs feeling that the script written by director Bill Condon wasn’t ready. After viewers failed to get wrapped up in The Mummy, the first film of the franchise, it isn’t particularly surprising that they have put the venture on hold. Universal’s president

Is ‘The Shape Of Water’ Connected To ‘The Creature From The Black Lagoon’?

The trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water has arrived, revealing a monster that looks very familiar. In the film, co-written by Vanessa Taylor, an other-worldly fairy tale, is set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. I can’t help but wonder if it is actually a branch-off about the 1954 classic Creature from the Black Lagoon. Not only does the creature look like the iconic Universal monster, it is being described the same way. One example, Michael Shannon’s character “Strickland”, while talking to another character about the creature states, “…the natives in the Amazon worshiped it like a god.” Sound familiar? In the original Creature from the Black Lagoon, a team of scientists in the
