We would like to share a letter from brilliant filmmaker Steven Spielberg addressing the public about his new series “Amazing Stories” ahead of its March Premiere. Spielberg produced the reboot/revival of the 1985 sci-fi horror series “Amazing Stories” for Apple TV+. Kerry Lynn Bishe, Dylan O’Brien, Josh Holloway, Victoria Pedretti, Sasha Alexander, and the late Robert Forster star. “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller penned the scripts for the show’s revival. He will be joined in the writers’ room by Emily Gordon, Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jane Goldman, “Once Upon a Time” creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz serve as executive producers and showrunners for “Amazing Stories”, from Universal TV and Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will also executive produce. The original series featured episodes that were everything from sci-fi to horror and was directed by the who’s who of directors including Martin Scorsese, Tom Holland, Tobe Hooper and Spielberg himself. But sadly,

Cynema or Not Cynema I started this blog not to review movies, but to examine the effects of cynicism on filmmaking. If you go through these posts you’ll find they aren’t reviews but rather how we view our entertainment and often take it for granted while lowering our acceptance standards. SPOILERS AHEAD! GOT IT? SPOILERS AHEAD! TURN BACK! You can read why I qualify the 1998 Matthew Broderick Godzilla in a previous post HERE. Warners and Legendary really hyped the marketing on Godzilla King of the Monsters and I gotta give props to the campaign. From the very first trailer, the strategy was to show this was a major departure from the Gareth Edwards 2014 film. Many will concur that a major shortfall of that film was there just wasn’t enough Godzilla. There wasn’t enough Bryan Cranston and a little too much Kick Ass but not the monster kick ass action we hoped for. What Edwards did achieve was dispelling

Finally, finally, finally I was able to watch the Neil Johnson written and directed film ‘Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter’. I have been anticipating seeing the movie for a long time, and (if you follow my twitter) have obviously been eager to write this review. I just want to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this movie. The movie has been presented as a whole bunch of things… a little ‘Mad Max’, a little bit ‘Terminator’, a little bit ‘Star Wars’, science fiction, drama, action…and a slew of other things. Well, it delivers on them all. From intergalactic battles in space, to making me laugh, to heart wrenching scenes. We are truly taken on this journey with the protagonist Sienna through pinnacle points in her life when she has to deal with not only her own journey to figure out who she is, but also to destroy the artificial intelligence that is killing humans. I am not going to

Here on horrorfuel.com we have been hyping the release of ‘Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter’ and the day is nearly here! This highly awarded, highly anticipated film premiers tomorrow! New pictures and a trailer have been released just in case you weren’t excited enough already and everything continues to point to this movie blowing people — and artificial intelligence robots — away! Winning awards at festivals everywhere for writing, directing, acting, and best movie, this will be one I will personally watch the very second I can get my eyeballs onto it. (Obviously keep a close watch on horrorfuel.com for reviews” In a recent interview with star Tracey Birdsall, she mentions that, although this is a science fiction, explosion-riddled film, it is very character driven and will appeal to everyone. Don’t miss it.

“Please don’t let this be full of jump scares like The Conjuring movies.” “I hope this is smart and actually has a story.” “I don’t expect much from this. It’ll likely suck. Just accept it.” “Stupid title. Stupid premise. Nothing to see here, folks.” “This will suck.” “I have hopes for this.” “Based on the cast of old stars [that] they have, I don’t see this being any good.” Internet comments. Most of them from “trolls.” Trolls are people I sum up by asking a simple question: “And where is the movie you made?” Oh…that’s right. I believe there can be too much democracy. The Internet has given a voice to groups of people that should not have one. I’ve posted my thoughts on a filmmaker’s response to uneducated critics here: https://horrorfuel.com/horror/movies/zombie-movies/when-filmmakers-strike-back/ So let’s talk about what Death House will be–not conjecture or ignorant shade cast by anonymous little people who are too afraid to commit themselves to making something.

Cynema is not a film review series. There are plenty of those online. Once in awhile a film comes along that defines everything about my Cynema concept. The latest is Roland Emerich’s two decades later (Why? That’s addressed later) sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. It’s hands down one of the worst films of the last five years. I knew what I was getting myself into. This is one of those movies that you can easily dismiss by saying “what did you expect? It’s okay, it’s not the worst thing ever. Just go with it.” They got my money. However as I write this I continue to fight. I resist. I will not go into the darkness quietly…I had to get my Bill Pullman Henry V/Braveheart speech moment because a a number of people in this cynical mess try for one. I counted at least four times when someone tried to give some kind of “let’s kick ass” mini speech or pep

Banshee by Terry Maggert is a science fiction and fantasy novel I was sent by the author to take a peek at. I intended to review it much sooner, but as you may read in the author’s note below, life is a very fickle thing. Initially what attracted me to this story was the focus on dragons and war. The promise of demons and monsters “sweeping across the planet in a wave of death” had my name written all over it. Who doesn’t love destruction and dragons? Book Description: Cities Fall. Dragons Rise. War Begins. The war for earth began in Hell. First came the earthquakes. Then came the floods. Finally, from the darkened mines, caves and pits, the creatures of our nightmares boiled forth to sweep across the planet in a wave of death. On the run and unprepared, mankind is not alone. We have dragons. Emerging from their slumber, giant dragons select riders to go to war. Their

It’s Not A Remake The Thing, 2011, is NOT a remake. It is a prequel. I just did more than the entire Universal Studios marketing department with that clarification. John Carpenter got royally screwed on his 1982 masterpiece. Some call The Thing his greatest film. Others, like me, call it one of the greatest films ever made for any genre. Carpenter’s film was buried in 1982 by a candy pilfering alien and Spielberg. Between a lackluster marketing campaign by Universal Studios and America’s pop sugar desire for heart glowing aliens, The Thing, 1982, never really had a chance. Carpenter himself saw the handwriting on the wall after exiting a plane to giant advertisements for ET: The Extraterrestrial. “We’re done,” he lamented. However home video and cable gave his film a new life, and eventually the tortoise caught up and passed the alien. Today, Carpenter’s film is regarded as timeless and as mentioned, by many, his best. The film is deserving

The Numinous by Tristan Michie could most easily be classified as a science fiction-thriller, but it definitely has some horror and suspense elements thrown in. Although I made contact with Michie in a writing group, I was interested in reading The Numinous based on the premise, alone. One of my favorite films is Event Horizon and I couldn’t help but see the resemblance in the book’s concept. Book Description: Light years away from home drifts a cold, bleak ship; seemingly void of all life……. Markus Clyde woke from his Stasis in a lonely, dark room, dimly lit by the emergency power. With not another soul in sight. In his confused and disorientated state, he desperately tries to figure out what has happened, why was he here? Where are the rest of the crew? With power rapidly failing and disturbing events occurring throughout the ship, he finds himself in a race against time. To get the ship home……. Or die trying.
