Stephen King Reads The First Chapter Of New Book ‘If It Bleeds’

Master of horror Stephen King is giving fans a real treat, reading them the first chapter of his new book If It Bleeds, releasing today. A collection of novellas, the book features the tales of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, The Life of Chuck, Rat, and the title story If It Bleeds. “In the title story, reader favorite Holly Gibney (from the Mr. Mercedes trilogy and The Outsider) must face her fears, and possibly another outsider—this time on her own. In “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” an intergenerational friendship has a disturbing afterlife. “The Life of Chuck” explores, beautifully, how each of us contains multitudes. And in “Rat,” a struggling writer must contend with the darker side of ambition.” Get your copy of Stephen King’s If It Bleeds now.

Three Films Based On One Book, Who Got It Right?

In August of 1938, readers of Astounding Science-Fiction Magazine beat the summer heat by reading a chilling science-fiction story that took them to the heart of Antarctica where a group of scientists was trapped along with a shape-shifting extraterrestrial. That story was Who Goes There?, by Don A. Stuart, the pen name of John W. Campbell Jr. The story was later reprinted in book form where Campbell used his real name. The novella eventually spawned three movies, the first one in 1951 titled The Thing from Another World that was followed up by John Carpenter’s 1982 cult classic The Thing (it spawned a video game as well as a series of comics.) which was followed up by the 2011 prequel using the same name. Three movies based on one book. The film industry is known for taking a book and making it into a film with mixed results, usually negative. So the question remains, out of the three films based

Thom Burgess Explores Supernatural Folk Horror In ‘The Eyrie’

From writer Thom Burgess (Malevolents) and illustrator Barney Bodoano comes The Eyrie, a new graphic novella mixing equal parts ghost story and folk horror. As unnerving as it is beautiful, The Eyrie is the tale of Rebecca, an American photojournalist, who while working on location along the coast of Sussex, England, becomes entrenched in the darkness of the local folklore. She encounters the local townsfolk, who are a mostly friendly, if superstitious bunch. The thing is, they have every reason to be. Rebecca is being stalked by shadowy horrors born of death, torture, and revenge. Will she escape the quaint seaside town before she’s taken by the Long Men? Burgess’ dialog is realistic, his settings and backstories eerily familiar and at-once brand new, while Bodoano’s ominous storybook-style art brings a palpable feeling of a gloomy “otherness” to the work. Drenched in foreboding, sinister atmosphere akin to The Wicker Man and The Woman in Black, The Eyrie is more than a
