Leatherface, Norman Bates And Buffalo Bill, All Inspired By One Man And This Is His Story

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT AND IMAGES ! Three of the most recognized characters from classic horror films are Leatherface, Buffalo Bill and Norman Bates. All three are based on the true story of one killer, Ed Gein. Of course, several other films and series have taken inspiration from the Gein story, including Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, and “Bloody Face” from American Horror Story. He also had several films made in his own name. But how much do you really know about Gein? Let me fill you in. She was so obsessed with sin that she once poured boiling water over Gein’s privates when she caught him touching himself. Gein’s father, a

Psycho II…The Slasher Dodges a Bullet

Norman Bates Is Coming Home… Summer, 1983. No Internet. No DVD extras. I got my first subscription in 1980 and kept it through most of high school. At one point my mother asked me, “Are you sure you don’t want Playboy or something?” Unlike Norman Bates, I had plenty of girlfriends. Boobs I could see any time, but horror? That was serious shit and it came in the mail addressed to me. The slasher film dominated 80s horror. Carpenter’s Halloween hit in 1978 and the original Friday the 13th was ripping off at its heels, and both birthed franchises that spanned an entire decade and beyond. Psychopaths with knives and a variety of tools populated movie houses and late night cable. Most horror scholars will acknowledge the sub genre was peaking around 1983. Friday the 13th was winding

Norman Bates Returning In New Novel

You might recognize the name Robert Bloch, he is the author that wrote the book that inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous film about a mamma’s boy in 1959, Psycho. Bloch wrote the sequel in 1982 and yet another book in 1990. Bloch passed away twenty years ago, but according to Entertainment Weekly, another author is picking up where Bloch left off. Chet Williamson is writing the next book in line, Psycho: Sanitarium. The novel is not a sequel, but a prequel to Bloch’s Psycho 2. In Williamson’s new novel Norman Bates is locked in a sanitarium and reveals what took place during those twenty years he was institutionalized. The book’s end will meet the beginning of Bloch’s Psycho 2. Williamson’s Psycho: Sanitarium will be out on shelves on March 1st, 2016.
