Game Review: ‘S.W.A.N. Chernobyl Unexplored’

Again I find myself exploring the radioactive nightmare that is Chernobyl, but this time I’m exploring the fictional S.W.A.N. Institute in this psychological horror S.W.A.N. Chernobyl Unexplored. I want to give a thank you to Volframe and Art Games Studio S.A. for the review opportunity! S.W.A.N. Chernobyl Unexplored takes players back to the exclusion zone 9 months after the nuclear meltdown and evacuations after signs of life were detected at the S.W.A.N. (Syndromes Without A Name) Institute. Players are part of a rescue team sent in but soon after arriving, all members of the team are separated and we are forced to explore the institute and all its puzzles and nightmarish creatures alone. Onto the game itself! This is a first-person puzzle exploring game and right away if you’re wondering, yeah it’s, unfortunately, following the same formula of other first-person psychological horrors where the scenery changes when you turn corners, open doors that lead nowhere, and when you turn around

Game Review: ‘Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water’

When it comes to horror games one always stood out to me as being truly scary and actually invoked nightmares for me in the past, and that’s Fatal Frame. I was super disappointed that after the game’s third installment that they stopped releasing it in the US, but when I heard about the series fifth installment being re-released for consols I said “You son of a bitch, I’m in!”. Let’s see if the series is still had its scares or if it’s lost it, lets check out Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. First a big thank you to Koei Tecmo for the reviewing opportunity! Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water takes place on Hikami Mountain that is a popular location for people to commit suicide much like the real-life suicide forest of Japan. The game follows three playable characters, Yuri a young woman with a developing sixth sense, Ren an author with a connection to the events on the

Game Review: ‘Crysis Remastered Trilogy’

When it comes to first-person shooters, you have over-the-top games and ones that fly under the radar (for good reasons) and then you have some that capture the old-school FPS feel that’s slowly going away in the industry, “Crysis” is the latter and in its own right has become a cult classic for keeping true to what FPS games are and thankfully with the market getting flooded with many FPS single-player games starting to focus more on online battle royal style gaming that’s coming out this year thankfully Crytek and Saber Interactive have brought “Crysis” back, not just the first game but the entire trilogy! A big thank you to Crytek and Saber Interactive for the opportunity to check out the Crysis Remastered Trilogy that brings all three games back and in HD. for those not familiar with the game series, Crysis centers around the player playing as a soldier wearing a Nanosuit that allows them to cloak, build impenetrable

Game Review: ‘Tormented Souls’

When I first heard of this game, I saw it on a post on Twitter showing testing of the combat animation and was instantly taken in by the look (though it was roughly done) but now Tormented Souls has been unleashed and PQube was amazing enough to let me have a look-see at their game that touts its bringing back classic survival horror. Tormented Souls follows Caroline Walker, a young woman who was suddenly called on to visit an abandoned mansion that is also a hospital, upon arriving she is knocked out and wakes up in a nightmarish scenario where twisted creatures roam the halls and her only weapon is a nail gun. The controls of the game are very smooth and can be mastered quite quickly and handle very much like the classic survival horror games we grew up on! No surprise as the game is heavily inspired by “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill”, which you definitely see a

A Messy Attempt: Game Review ‘FORECLOSED’

Cyberpunk and Comic books go hand in hand but in a videogame format? In FORECLOSED players are in a cyberpunk world told like a comic book and follows Evan Kapnos who had his identity foreclosed on after a company he was augmented through went bankrupt, not only that, now people from an unknown organization are trying to kill him. Unfortunately, my experience with FORECLOSED was no very good, starting with a bug that would not let the game work for several days, even after the game’s launch, after it somehow started to work, I sort of wished it still hadn’t. To start off with, on a positive note, the animation is unique and the concept of having the game come across as an interactive comic made it intriguing… that’s the extent of the positive notes I have. Though the overall look of the game is supposed to be a “Comic” look, it’s just unappealing texture-wise. The change in views can

Game Review: ‘Deadly Days’

Zombie games pretty much have the same premise, zombies take over the world, survival is key, fight and scavenge in order to survive. Nothing new right? Well Pixel Split Games, Assemble Entertainment, and WhisperGames changed that by combining rogue-lite elements with silliness that birthed this pixilated strategy, Deadly Days. Deadly Days is a pixilated strategy game where failure can be a good thing as the more you keep trying again, the more you uncover as no playthrough is the same. The game’s story is quite silly, some bad burgers were produced and sold in a fast food restaurant turning people into zombies, you take control of survivors to help battle the hoards of zombies while trying to find the burger joint that caused this apocalypse and destroy it. The controls for Deadly Days are easy to master as they’re quite simple, plus the humorous tutorial at the start helps. The game’s sound designe is relatively simple but the soundtrack is
