Movie Review: Dark Light (2019)

I try my best to avoid major spoilers when I do a review, however this time I feel the need to talk about the movie Dark Light in detail. Consider this a warning. Netflix’s Dark Light, from writer-director Padraig Reynolds, follows a newly divorced woman who moves back into her childhood home with her young daughter. It doesn’t take long before she begins to experience strange events such as lights in the cornfield and her daughter disappearing on several occasions, only to be found in strange places. When I came across the movie I found the trailer both intriguing and well done, so I decided to give it a shot. The story its self held a lot of potential, unfortunately, it’s got more plot holes than Michael Myers has victims. The casting of the lead actress, Jessica Madsen, is a double-edged sword. Don’t get me wrong, she is fantastic in her role as a terrified mother. The problem is that

Netflix Review: The Witcher

Netflix’s The Witcher, based on the book and gaming series, is a surprise hit. When I first heard about the series I was excited, Games of Thrones had ended and I was looking for something to take its place. I will confess, I’ve never read the books or played the games. Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher. Cavill got ripped for his role as Superman, but he got swole for his role as The Witcher. I’ll be honest with you, he didn’t impress me as Superman, but he was made to play Geralt. A combination of badass, stoic, and heroic, you can’t help but cheer for the monster hunter whose goal, in the beginning, is to make a living slaying beasts for cash. As the story progresses, Geralt’s sense of honor begins to strengthen, even though he tries his best to fight it. In the end, he is a man on a mission to save a young

Netflix Review: Marianne

You know the drill, sign on to Netflix and spend hours looking for a good horror movie to watch. But here’s a surprise, the scariest thing on Netflix isn’t a horror movie. It’s a French (English dubbed) series titled “Marianne,” and it was released on Friday the 13th. I know what you’re thinking, ‘How scary can a show called ‘Marianne’ be?’ As a hardcore horror fan who’s next to impossible to scare, I can honestly say “Marianne” is downright chilling. But that’s not all; at its heart, the series is about a messed-up woman returning to the place and family that she pushed away years ago. It’s about people growing, becoming a better version of themselves, and conquering their demons. In the series, a well-known horror author Emma (Victoria Du Bois), returns to her hometown after a childhood friend reaches out to her for help. She believes that her mother is possessed by the witch from Emma’s novels, inspired by

Movie Review: Netflix’s The Silence

Before I begin this review I would like to clear something up. Like many, when I saw the trailer for Netflix’s The Silence I assumed that it was a rip off of A Quiet Place. But here’s the thing, The Silence is based on Tom Lebbon’s novel by the same name, the same book The Quiet Place was inspired by. That means that they are adaptations of the same book. Netflix actually began work on The Silence before A Quiet Place even began filming. Even though there are similarities, the two films are pretty different when it comes to the story. What I’m saying is, The Silence is NOT a ripoff. What are the similarities between The Silence and The Quiet Place? First, they both feature creatures that attack when they hear a noise, but the creatures are very different. Both films to feature deaf characters and a family on the run. There are also two children in each movie.

Movie Review: Netflix’s Original Film ‘Apostle’ Is Simply Brilliant

Corruption, greed, envy, perversion, murder, all stand prominent in Netflix‘s feature film Apostle, from writer-director Gareth Evans (The Raid). In this dark, twisted, supernatural tale Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) journeys to the island where a cult is holding his sister hostage, on a mission to bring her home. The prophet Malcolm, played by Michael Sheen, rules his followers with an iron fist and the congregation believes his every word, going so far as to give their blood as a sacrifice, which he uses to feed the god he and the other two founders have bound in chains, though the colony is unaware of her presence. While Thomas secretly searches for his sister he stumbles across the truth behind the colony’s religion and it’s frightening. But what is more disturbing is how far the men that rule the island will go to keep their power and how quickly they turn on each other and their own families. The worst part of
