A Brother Must Sacrifice Everything To Save His Sister In The Chosen

Terror Films’ first horror feature, The Chosen, will be co-distributed with Supergravity Pictures. The Chosen has already been released on several platforms as of December 1st, including iTunes, where it spent eight weeks in the top 100 horror films. It is now available on Netflix. The film stars Kian Lawley, Elizabeth Keener, Angelica Chitwood, Mykayla Sohn, Barbara Goodson, Chris Gann, Casey James Knight, Emily Killian, Dayna Devon, Harv Popick, Penelope Richards and Stefanie Estes. The Chosen centers on a young girl who has become the focus of the demon Lilith. To save her, her brother Cameron must sacrifice six of their family members before six days are up. But can he? At a time when many horror films are going overboard with too complex plots and over the top special effects, The Chosen was breath of fresh air. Both the plot and the special effects were simple and straight forward, in a very good way. Kian Lawley’s role as the

Movie Review: Harbinger Down (2015)

Last night I popped a bag of popcorn and settled in to watch Alec Gillis’ new horror film ‘Harbinger Down’. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the special effects master did not disappoint. You should recognize Gillis’ name. He has done the special effects for many films including ‘Aliens’, ‘The Monster Squad’ (1987), ‘AVP’, ‘Ender’s Game’ and several films of the ‘Tremors’ franchise. ‘Gillis’ both wrote and directed ‘Harbinger Down’, which stars horror veteran Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Matt Winston (Star Trek: Enterprise), Camille Balsamo (Murder in the First), Giovonnie Samuels (Freedom Writers), Reid Collums (Whiplash), Winston James Francis (Little Boy), Milla Bjorn (Angel), Michael Estime (Beyond Merritt), Edwin H. Bravo (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Mick Ignis (Designed for Dreaming), Jason Speer (The Visitant) and Kraig W. Strutz. In ‘Harbinger Down’ two students and their professor board the ship ‘Harbinger’, a crabbing vessel, to study the effects of global warming on the migration pattern of whales. Sadie

Movie Review: Cooties (2015)

We can all remember a time when we were kids that catching the cooties was a serious concern. The 2015 film ‘Cooties’ combines that past fear with the new trend of zombie like creatures and they do it well. Directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion made great choice when it came to casting Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Jack McBrayer (The Jack and Triumph Show), Leigh Whannell (Insidious) and Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) as the teachers fighting to survive the horde of blood thirsty students in ‘Cooties’. ‘Cooties’ begins on chicken farm. The chickens are infected with a strange virus, the chickens are being made into chicken nuggets, which are in turn sold to schools. A little girl eats an infected nugget and spreads the virus by first biting a little boy, who is a bit of a jerk. The virus mutates quickly and the boy spreads the virus

Movie Review: ‘Burying The Ex’ (2015)

Last night I watched Joe Dante’s new zombie flick ‘Burying the Ex’. It was exactly what I was expecting, funny, slightly gory and great. ‘Burying the Ex’ stars Anton Yelchin as Max. Max wants out of his relationship with Evelyn (Ashley Greene) who is over barring, bossy, jealous, high maintenance and condescending about Max’s dream of owning his own horror shop and Travis, his half brother. After she moves in and destroys Max’s mint condition horror poster collection during a surprise redecorating of the apartment, he realizes that it’s not going to work out, and who could blame him. He tells Evelyn to meet him at the park so he can end things, but when she arrives she is struck by a truck and killed. You would think that would be the end of it, but you would be wrong. Time passes and he’s falling for Olivia (Alexandra Daddario), but things get complicated when Evelyn returns from the dead, as

The film’s screen play was written by Ian Shorr, who also wrote the script for the 2008’s horror movie ‘Splinter’. Shorr also served as a writer for the series ‘Destination Truth’. The cast of this found-footage film includes ‘The Walking Dead’s’ Alexandra Breckenridge, Jake McDorman (Greek) and Chris Marquette (Freddy vs. Jason). Doug Jones, who has starred in such films as ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, plays the role of the dark entity, “The Operator” aka Slender Man. In the film a small town news team, investigating a news story, the team stumbles across a box of home made video tapes. In the footage they discover a faceless man in a dark suit, referred to as

Is ‘It Follows’ As Great As Everyone Says It Is?

Maika Monroe (The Guest), Keir Gilchrist (Dead Silence), Olivia Luccardi (Like Sunday, Like Rain), Lili Sepe (Spork) and ‘Zombeavers’ actor Jake Weary star in the 2014 supernatural thriller ‘It Follows’. In ‘It Follows’ Jay (Maika Monroe) makes the mistake of sleeping with the wrong guy and as a result she has contracted a supernatural STD, of sorts. Now Jay along with her friends must find away to break the cycle and save her life from the entity that stalks her day and night. So, is ‘It Follows’ as great as everyone says it is? The answer is yes. Writer-director David Robert Mitchell scored a home run with this brilliant horror film. The film delivers a new concept, unlike recycled ideas behind the majority of horror movies we see these days. One thing I really liked about the film is that Mitchell doesn’t rely on the heavy use of “jump scares”, a cheap, over used trick of filmmakers where a sudden

Movie Review : Digging Up The Marrow (2014)

Adam Green, the man behind the ‘Hatchet’ franchise, has brought us ‘Digging Up The Marrow’. Green plays himself in this faux documentary about monsters. In ‘Digging Up The Marrow’, while filming a documentary about horror artists, Green is approached by a strange man with an even stranger story. William Dekker, is a man on a mission, he’s trying to find someone who can help him expose the truth, that monsters are real. Adam Green wrote and directed ‘Digging Up The Marrow’. Green, William Barratt, Josh Ethier, Rileah Vanderbilt, Kane Hodder, and most everyone in the film, play themselves, except for Ray Wise, who plays William Dekker. Wise also starred in many movies, including this year’s hottest supernatural movie ‘The Lazarus Effect’. The concept behind ‘Digging Up The Marrow’ was a fresh idea and a welcomed change from the same old movies ideas we see over and over. Green’s creativity truly showed with each monsters unique design. Ray Wise did a
