‘Fate Of The Furious’ Actor Joins ‘Morbius’

Earlier today we shared the first look at Jared Leto as Morbius, but that’s not the only Morbius news we’ve got for you. Variety is now reporting that The Fate of the Furious actor Tyrese Gibson has now signed on to star as a yet to be named FBI Agent who is out to bring Morbius to justice. Gibson joins previously announced cast members Jared Harris (“The Terror”) who plays Morbius’ mentor, Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) a villain, and Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising) Morbius’ love interest. Leto stars as Michael Morbius, a scientist who, while trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Though disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life. Daniel Espinosa (Life) directs from the script penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless based on the character created by writer Roy Thomas which made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man

A First Glimpse Of Jared Leto As Morbius

Filming for Sony’s dark Spider-Man spin-off Morbius is in full swing. Thanks to star Jared Leto‘s tweet we’ve got our first glimpse of the scientist turned vampire. While we don’t see much, the tweet does let us know that there are 11 weeks of filming left to go. A few days ago we reported that “The Terror” actor Jared Harris has joined the cast along with Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) and Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising). Jared Leto stars as Michael Morbius, a scientist who, while trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Though disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life. Next summer, Sony will unleash the dark Spider-Man spin-off Morbius starring Jared Letto as a killer antihero. Daniel Espinosa (Life) is in the director’s chair for the movie about Michael Morbius, a scientist who, while trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life. The film is based on the comic character created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, which made its debut in Amazing Spider-Man #101. “Doctor Who” actor Matt Smith and Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising) are currently in talks to also star in Morbius which opens in theaters on July 31, 2020.

Jared Leto To Star In Sony’s Morbius Movie

A few months ago we reported that Sony was expanding their shared Marvel universe with the new spin-off Morbius. Today, Sony stated that Daniel Espinosa has been tapped to direct. They also announced their star, Oscar Winner Jared Leto. But the musician/actor is not new to the comic world, back in 2016 he played the role of Joker in Suicide Squad. He also has a solo movie in the works where he will reprise his role as the insane villain. In the comics, Morbius was a scientist who, “in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transformed himself into a living vampire who, though disgusted by his own bloodlust, chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life.” The film will be an adaptation of the character created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kale, which debuted in “The Amazing Spider-Man #101”.

Sony Sheds Light On The Upcoming Morbius Adaptation

Sony is serious about building its Marvel shared universe. Venom, starring Tom Hardy, will open in theaters this October. One of the other films on the menu for Sony is Morbius. The first details for Morbius, the vampire comic adaptation which we last reported on back in November of last year, has been uncovered by The Hashtag Show who reportedly reached out to Sony for an update. According to the site, in the movie, Morbius is a “Horror action story of a scientist who, in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transformed himself into a living vampire who, though disgusted by his own bloodlust, chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life.” The site also reported that Sony gave them the basic description of the type of actor the studio is looking to cast. Sony is not looking for a particular race but is looking for a man between that ages of 30
