Movie Review: ‘The Happytime Murders’ Will Leave You In Stitches

There has a been a lot of hype surrounding Universal Picture’s crime comedy The Happytime Murders. I’m often leery of movies who have a ton of buzz, more often than not I get disappointed. Luckily, that’s not the case with The Happytime Murders. From director Brian Henson comes this side-splitting thrill ride that puts human detective Connie Edwards (Melissa McCarthy) and puppet P.I. Phil Phillips (Bill Barretta) on the case of murdered cast members of the Happytime show. The pair, once partners, have a tension-filled relationship and the two are constantly at each other’s throats and slinging insults which makes for a hilarious viewing experience. The star-studded human cast for this flick also includes Maya Rudolph, Elizabeth Banks, Joel McHale, and Leslie David Baker. One thing you should know, while puppets are cute, this movie is NOT for kids. In fact, it’s the most vulgar movie I’ve seen in a long time and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

No Sesame, All Street – This November Bring Home ‘The Happytime Murders’

Discover what happens on the other side of the street in the outrageous, dark comedy, The Happytime Murders arriving this November from STX Films and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. “Hilarious, wickedly original and crazily quirky” (Neil Pond, Parade), The Happytime Murders is directed and produced by Brian Henson (The Muppet Christmas Carol) alongside producers Jeffrey Hayes, Melissa McCarthy, and Ben Falcone. The film features an all-star comedic cast including Melissa McCarthy (The Boss), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Joel McHale (“Community”), and Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect). The Happytime Murders “is a raunchy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. A hilarious buddy cop murder mystery comedy at heart, the film is unapologetically bold and keeps audiences entertained from start to finish.”

‘Sesame Street’ Suing ‘The Happytime Muders’ Over Puppets

We recently reported that the trailer for Melissa McCarthy‘s new movie, The Happytime Murders, has been released. While it looks like a lot of adult fun, one group of people aren’t happy. Fox5 is reporting that the people behind “Sesame Street” are suing the promoter of the movie saying that the movie has gone too far by tarnishing their puppets’ fame with gore, sex, violence, and all around raunchiness. Friday, a judge scheduled a hearing for this week for “immediate relief” on the behalf of “Sesame Street”, which filed a suit Thursday for an undisclosed amount, and wants The Happytimes Murders to be marketed in a different way. The lawsuit claims that the “Sesame Street” brand will be hurt by the trailer, along with its tagline, “No Sesame. All Street.” Directed by Brian Henson and set to be released on August 17, 2018, the film features McCarthy as a detective teaming up with a puppet detective to solve a series
