A Noob Plays A Souls(Like) Game: Review Of ‘Mortal Shell’

As you can guess by the title, I’ve never played a “souls” game before. I never experienced the soul-crushing repetitive nature of playing, dying, and repeating for hours at a time that makes one question why they put themselves through such mental torture…but I want to, and Cold Symmetry and Playstack were more than happy to test my resolve with their soulslike game Mortal Shell. Mortal Shell takes players to a dark world full of creepy looking enemies, creatures, and mystery as they play as a being that takes over the remains of four dead warriors and fights their way through enemies in order to attain glands from certain enemies to appease the mysterious monstrous prisoner. Now onto the game itself! Leading up to getting the review copy of Mortal Shell I watched and studied gameplay videos of Dark Souls in which this game is said to be like. Long story short, YES, Mortal Shell is on the same level

New Souls-Like Game ‘Mortal Shell’ Coming

The 15-man team made up of AAA gaming veterans make up Cold Symmetry, and to make their mark on the gaming world they wasted no time and went right for the throat with their upcoming Souls-like flagship game, Mortal Shell. Souls games are a genre of games that are inspired by or a lot like the games in the “Dark Souls” game series where players earn points (souls) by killing enemies and can lose all of them if defeated in which these games are known to being very taxing. Souls games are also known for the unique combat system where dodging, and parrying attacks are just as important, if not more important, than attacks. Players take on the role of an empty vessel who is summoned by the “Dark Father” to retrieve glands from your fallen foes. To do so, the vessel must take on a “shell” (the remains of a fallen warrior) and harness their skills to fight the

New ‘A Plague Tale’ Trailer Focuses On Human Foes

With its May 14th release approaching, Asobo Studios and Focus Home Interactive put up a new trailer that focuses on the human foes in A Plague Tale: Innocence. The trailer titled “Monsters” shows that the plague rats are only a fraction of what our heroes need to worry about, while the rats are driven by nature and instinct, humans are far scarier as they’re driven by something else. The game’s main characters, Amicia and Hugo are orphaned while the plague tears through France and their only salvation is to leave but not just because of the illness and the rats, but because of the inquisition that seeks out Hugo. The sibling’s masked foe is Lord Nickolas, is the commander of the Inquisition’s forces. A worthy opponent who will do whatever it takes to complete his mission and not allowing anyone to get in his way. But every puppet needs a master and his name is Vitalis, a mysterious clergyman whose

‘A Plague Tale: Innocence’ Rats Versus The Real Plague Rats

Focus Home Interactive has released their third and final episode of their web series showing behind the scenes of the making of their upcoming game, A Plague Tale: Innocence. The final episode titled “Children of the Plague” focuses more on the game’s main antagonists, the hoard of plague-infested rats. The developers at Asobo Studio used their own software to create the hoard of vermin where at times there will be about 5000 rats on the screen, along with being programmed with a “hive mind”, each virtual rat will have its own artificial intelligence and behavior. Spectacularly creepy! Rats for generations have been blamed for the Second Pandemic (Black Death) and have been depicted for a long time as being ravenous hoards attacking at will. Though the idea and imagery of a moving mountain of sleek fur, wormy tails, and deafening squeaks gnawing away at you instill fear and disgust, our own fears give these little dudes a little too much
