Movie Review: The First Purge

This October The First Purge, directed by Gerard McMurray, arrives on Blu-ray and DVD and I’m sure you are wondering what we thought of the film that takes us back to where it (the first experiment) all began. Set on Staton Island, we see the new Founding Fathers, backed by the NRA, begin the first experiment to see how the public will react to a day where citizens are able to commit any crime without fear of punishment. We see the residents of Staton Island line up and given not only contacts to record their participation, but $5,000 with more promised if they go out that night, which is quite an incentive for those in desperate need of money. But not all of the residents approve. Nya (Lex Scott Davis) leads part of the community in protest. Concerned about her brother Isaiah (Jovian Wade) after she finds out he’s been selling dope for Dmitri (Y’Ian Noel), she thinks he’s off

The theme park was overrun by masked attackers seeking to ‘purge’ their grievances on unsuspecting visitors. “Now with the New Founding Fathers of America in charge of America’s political landscape, change is inevitably coming. When Dr. Updale (Marisa Tomei) presents the chance for a risky, theoretical social experiment to become a live phenomenon, The Purge is born. Once Dmitri (Y’Lan Noel) is aware that his hometown

‘The First Purge’ Director Drew Inspiration From Real Life

This July we will witness The First Purge, from director Gerard McMurray. Recently he revealed that he found real-life inspiration that underscores the prequel’s theme of government’s abuse of power. Right now we’re living in a time where people are waking up and seeing how things really are and are needing to stand up and voice their opinion,” McMurray stated to Deadline. “As a filmmaker, showing those images and putting it out there gave me a voice to acknowledge what was going on and bring some awareness and spark dialogue about it.” He continued. “We see events that taking place in this country over the last year. I just try to use what was going on in the real world and trying to bring it into the film. I felt like horror films wrestle with the evils of real life, and that was one of the things I wanted to do with this film.”We’re fighting for real injustices [in the

‘The First Purge’ Teaser Makes America Great Again

“Behind every tradition lies a revolution.” The Purge franchise continues this 4th of July with The First Purge, from director Gerard McMurray and screenwriter James DeMonaco, the franchise’s creator. Today, we get a look at how the annual night of chaos and murder began in the film’s first teaser trailer. We should also talk about the new poster that puts a new twist on Trump’s iconic red hat and slogan of “Make America Great Again” and replaces it with “The First Purge”. Political statement? Maybe, but I think it’s hilarious. “To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community.
