A24 Gifts Viewers An Early Christmas Present, The Surprise Release Of ‘Lamb’ On VOD

A24 is known for its unnerving genre films, such as The Lighthouse and Midsommar. Now, their newest excursion into the strange, Lamb, has gotten a surprise VOD release. Lamb, which we call “unsettling” in our review, is from director Valdimar Jóhannsson. The horror thriller “is the story of a childless couple, María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. On Christmas Eve they find a newborn who is half-human, half sheep. Longing for a child of their own they decide to keep the lamb-child and raise it as their own regardless of the consequences. This unexpected prospect of a new family brings them much joy before it ultimately destroys them.” Watch Lamb now on VOD.

Movie Review: Lamb

I have seen my share of strange films but Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb takes the cake. I have never seen anything else like it. When a couple (Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Guðnason) discovers one of the sheep on their farm has given birth to something not completely human, not completely animal, a baby with a human body and a lamb’s head. They set their eyes on the creature they respond with a deadpan reaction like it was an everyday occurrence, and silently go about raising it in a bid to soothe their sorrow for their lost child. The couple’s reactions to the events throughout the movie are downright odd. The first sight of the child they have named Ada is not the only “meh” reaction they have. The two spend much of the film silently going about their business of farming like they are numb. The film’s location is stunning. It plays out in a remote area of Iceland. The

When it comes to unique, unnerving films, anything from A24 is bound to get under your skin. That includes Lamb, whose new trailer left me speechless. From Valdimar Jóhannsson comes the supernatural horror thriller Lamb “is the story of a childless couple, María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. We first learned about Valdimar Jóhannsson’s supernatural thriller Lamb last year, but things have been petty quiet since, until now. Variety is reporting that a24 has acquired the film ahead of Cannes. Starring Prometheus actress Noomi Repace, “Lamb is the story of a childless couple, María (Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. On Christmas Eve they find a newborn who is half-human, half sheep. Longing for a child of their own they decide to keep the lamb-child and raise it as their own regardless of the consequences. This unexpected prospect of a new family brings them much joy before ultimately destroys them.” Hopefully, A24 will announce the release date soon. In the meantime, check out the unsettling trailer.
