Movie Review: Amulet

Every once in a while, I come across a movie the leaves me speechless. As I sat down today to watch Amulet I thought I had some idea of what to expect. I was wrong. Where to start? I guess the premise would be a good place. Amulet is the debut feature from Romola Garai and follows Tomas (Alec Secareanu), a homeless ex-soldier, suffering from PTSD and heavy guilt. He meets a nun who arranges a place for him to stay, with a young woman (Carla Juri) whose mother is sick and living in the attic. But not everything is what as it seems to be. Normally, I do my best to avoid giving out spoilers, but to work through this film, I need to reveal a few things. To avoid spoilers stop reading this review now. The first half of the movie is a SLOW burn. But at the halfway mark things go off the rails and morphs into

Movie Review: Ghosts Of War (2020)

The moment I saw the trailer for writer-director Eric Bress’ Ghosts of War I knew that I HAD to see it. Not only is it a horror movie, but it’s also a war movie, two things I’m a sucker for. Are you tired of the same old overly hyped horror movie that promises to be “one of the best movies of the year” only to be a total let a down? Well, that’s not the case with Ghosts of War. It actually is that good. Ghosts of War opens with a haunting quote. This war will not end. With every mile my body and spirit break. Every jolt makes brittle my mind. Each step pulls me further from homeuntil I am the shell of the man that kissed my mother goodbye a forever ago. And I tense endlessly. Not knowing which will arrive first, the bullet that takes my life or my final chance for redemption. – Private First Class

The future of the Wolf Creek franchise has been in question for a while now. But that has just changed. Star John Jarratt took to social media this week teasing that Wolf Creek has two new projects in the works, but like many others is stuck in Covid limbo. To my delight – I have received an overwhelming amount of messages about Wolf Creek 3 – the season and the movie. I promise to keep you updated as we all try our best to get through these tough times.” Jarratt wrote. Jarratt stars as stone-cold serial killer Mick Taylor who roams the Aussie Outback, first conning victims with his rugged charms to bring them in before brutally murdering them. The original film, written and directed by Greg McLean, was released back in 2005 with the sequel following in 2013.
