When it comes to unique, unnerving films, anything from A24 is bound to get under your skin. That includes Lamb, whose new trailer left me speechless. From Valdimar Jóhannsson comes the supernatural horror thriller Lamb “is the story of a childless couple, María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. On Christmas Eve they find a newborn who is half-human, half sheep. Longing for a child of their own they decide to keep the lamb-child and raise it as their own regardless of the consequences. This unexpected prospect of a new family brings them much joy before it ultimately destroys them.” Lamb, a film unlike anything we’ve seen before, is set to be released on October 8, 2021.

We first learned about Valdimar Jóhannsson’s supernatural thriller Lamb last year, but things have been petty quiet since, until now. Variety is reporting that a24 has acquired the film ahead of Cannes. Starring Prometheus actress Noomi Repace, “Lamb is the story of a childless couple, María (Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who are sheep farmers in Iceland. On Christmas Eve they find a newborn who is half-human, half sheep. Longing for a child of their own they decide to keep the lamb-child and raise it as their own regardless of the consequences. This unexpected prospect of a new family brings them much joy before ultimately destroys them.” Hopefully, A24 will announce the release date soon. In the meantime, check out the unsettling trailer.

From acclaimed director, Hlynur Pálmason comes the Nordic festival favorite, revenge thriller A White, White Day. Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 97%, the film centers on “off-duty police chief (a chilling Ingvar Sigurdsson, who received Cannes Critics’ Week award for Best Actor for his performance) in a remote Icelandic town, begins to suspect a local man of having had an affair with his late wife, who died in a tragic accident two years earlier. Gradually his obsession for finding out the truth takes over his life and inevitably begins to endanger himself and his loved ones. Combining classic thriller tropes with a distinctly Nordic arthouse sensibility, A White, White Day, the second feature from Hlynur Pálmason “engages in storytelling that’s both powerful and fresh throughout, marking him as a talent to watch” (The Hollywood Reporter).” Ingvar Sigurdsson, Ida Mekkin Hlynsodóttir, Hilmir Snær Gudnason, and Sara Dögg Asgeirsdóttir star. White, White Day arrives on DVD and Digital
