In recent years, there’s still a lot of talk about the “Ghostbusters” franchise, may it be about the anticipation of the long-awaited third installment, or the controversy still plaguing the 2016 reboot. The reboot has caused such a flare-up of toxic masculinity/femininity that it’s one of those films no one really wants to talk about or get into. Well, I don’t really have an opinion on the reboot because…I’ve never seen it, so I wanted to change that. I decided to do a “Ghostbusters” marathon and watch all three films in a row and give an honest opinion on them. WARNING: Potential Spoilers Ahead To keep it fair, I watched the theatrical versions of all three. I can’t really say a whole lot about the first (original) film Ghostbusters because out of the three it was the best. The problems seem to start with Ghostbusters 2. The problem right away in the 1989 sequel is there seems to be a

Fans had mixed emotions when it came to 2016’s female driven Ghostbusters. Many thought that franchise would end, but they were wrong. Ivan Reitman, the director of the original film and its sequel, made an appearance at a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He revealed that he is very optimistic that a new sequel will possibly arrive around the original’s 35th anniversary in 2019. Well, the studio is working on some really nice things. First of all, I can’t believe the movie is still playing and being watched so assiduously… and I can’t believe I’m so old. Yeah, I think there’s going to be a lot of fun, a lot of special things. We’re going to try to tie one of our films close to that date.” It was also mentioned during the panel that the film will be live-action. He also talked about the animated series that is in the works. I think we have wonderful plans,

Critical Thinking Cynema is not a film review series. Ghostbusters 2016 got a lot of shit before it was released. This article is a companion piece to my previous “Critical Thinking” essay. Ghostbusters 2016 is not funny and as a result I will argue that it’s really not a movie. The trailer holds a record for most negative comments on YouTube. There is a reason for this, however, the venomous personal attacks against one of its stars, Leslie Jones, were unwarranted and inexcusable. All of that aside, I am going to use Cynema to explain with critical thinking, why this film was a failure and arguably not a true film. Ghostbusters 2016, Answer the Call, whatever…is another studio bait and switch. This has nothing to do with a female cast. It’s not a racial thing. So let’s get the misogyny and race baiting out of the way. Ghostbusters 2016 wouldn’t have been funny even if the original actors starred. Does

Dan Aykroyd, who played Dr. Ray Stanz and co-wrote the original Ghostbusters, made a shocking statement over the weekend that not only will fans love the new Ghostbusters reboot, but they might actually like it more than the original two movies. “Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it.”Aykroyd stated on Facebook. “As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bring all my friends.” Aykroyd both stars in and serves as an executive producer for the Ghostbusters reboot, whose first trailer is ranked as the most disliked trailer in the history of YouTube. However, the second trailer seems to be fairing a bit better. Directed by Paul Feig, from the script penned by Feig and Katie Dippold, the reboot stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Lesie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.A

The first full length trailer for Paul Feig’s new female driven revamp of Ghostbusters is here via Sony. In the trailer ghosts have overrun the city, including Slimer. The Ghostbusters, led by Melissa McCarthy’s character, learn that someone is amplifying the city’s paranormal entities. Spirits of criminals from New York’s history are back and it’s up to the Ghostbusters to save the city. The ghosts are a bit different than the ones in the 1984 version. In the original ghosts were made with practical effects. The new film relies heavily on CGI and it shows. Another difference between the two films is that the ghosts not only interact with the cast in the new film, they are also able to possess people. McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones star along side Chris Hemsworth, Michael Kenneth Williams, Andy Garcia, Matt Walsh and Pat Kiernan, with cameos by many of the original cast including Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd,

There have been rumors circulating for awhile that our favorite green ghost, Slimer, will be returning for the new female driven remake of Ghostbusters. An IMDb creditor appeared that seemed to confirm the rumors, but then the film’s director Paul Feig tweeted that the rumor was not true. Now, Ghosbusters actor Michael K. Williams has confirmed that the whispers are absolutely true during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I’m not going to lie, working with Melissa, and Kristen, and Kate was really dope. But I got to work with Slimer, dude. Like Slimer!!! I’m in a scene with Slimer! I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan and it was a dream come true.” I can’t say we’re surprised. With Hi-C’s Ecto Coolers and the new Hostess’ green Slimer themed Twinkies hitting shelves it was clear that the always hungry green guy was back. In the same interview Williams revealed his role in Ghostbuster, which opens in theaters July 15th. “I play the
