Shudder’s Golden Globe Nominated Horror ‘La Llorona’ Is Coming To Digital

RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has now picked up the select rights to Shudder’s hit film La Llorona for home release. La Llorona blends together the terror of both myth and reality into a devastating exposé of the genocidal atrocities against the Mayan community in Guatemala. Through a modern retelling of the classic Latin American legend, La Llorona forces a reckoning with not-so-distant crimes that should not have ever have been forgotten. The story centers on indignant retired general Enrique who finally faces trial for the genocidal massacre of thousands of Mayans decades ago. As a horde of angry protestors threatens to invade their opulent home, the women of the house – his haute wife, conflicted daughter, and precocious granddaughter – weigh their responsibility to shield the erratic, senile Enrique against the devastating truths behind being publicly revealed and the increasing sense that a wrathful supernatural force is targeting them for his crimes. Meanwhile, much of the

Japan’s Cursed Ghost Story?

Japan is a unique country because of its ability to embrace the changing world around them while still having hold of its cultural roots. Storytelling, a fixture in Japanese entertainment, evolved over the years and the introduction of motion picture help not only tell stories of the past to newer generations but to outsiders curious about Japan’s culture. One story that’s been told for generations has been seen on stage numerous times and performed at Kabuki venues for as long as many can remember. This tale of betrayal and vengeance from the other world has made an impact on the entertainment industry that it can be said it inspired movies like Ju-On: The Grudge and The Ring, not only is the story famous for its impact on modern Japanese ghost stories but it’s said to be cursed because the vengeful spirit that’s center of the story is real. The story is called Yotsuya Kaidan, sometimes referred to The Story of

Haunted Japanese Tunnel You Can Visit (On Youtube)

Youtube user TheJapanChannelDcom, an Australian now living in Japan with 98k subscribers, posts videos on his channel showcasing daily life in Japan. The Youtuber has video playlists for specific topics all intended to prepare and educate people who are planning to visit or move to Japan. His video posted on November 17th was a bit different from his regular posts, this time he was visiting (or at least driving through) a tunnel that’s said to be haunted. The video starts off with the Youtuber driving through the mountains explaining the story and history before driving through the haunted tunnel that opened in 1960. After exiting the tunnel the Youtuber pulls off to a foot of an old path leading to the original haunted tunnel that was opened in 1897. Japan has a history of stories of haunted tunnels as long as these tunnels themselves but that I’ll save for another time! For now, you can check out the double feature

Thom Burgess Explores Supernatural Folk Horror In ‘The Eyrie’

From writer Thom Burgess (Malevolents) and illustrator Barney Bodoano comes The Eyrie, a new graphic novella mixing equal parts ghost story and folk horror. As unnerving as it is beautiful, The Eyrie is the tale of Rebecca, an American photojournalist, who while working on location along the coast of Sussex, England, becomes entrenched in the darkness of the local folklore. She encounters the local townsfolk, who are a mostly friendly, if superstitious bunch. The thing is, they have every reason to be. Rebecca is being stalked by shadowy horrors born of death, torture, and revenge. Will she escape the quaint seaside town before she’s taken by the Long Men? Burgess’ dialog is realistic, his settings and backstories eerily familiar and at-once brand new, while Bodoano’s ominous storybook-style art brings a palpable feeling of a gloomy “otherness” to the work. Drenched in foreboding, sinister atmosphere akin to The Wicker Man and The Woman in Black, The Eyrie is more than a

Alan Fine’s Paranormal Film ‘The Catalyst’

A few days ago I stumbled across a tweet from the account for a movie ‘The Catalyst’. I was curious, and upon further investigation, I found a website address. On the website, which is still under construction, I found a place where people can submit their true ghost stories by a post or video. I couldn’t resist, I submitted my tale (yes I believe in ghosts), then I continued on, to the part of the site dedicated to the movies, Alan Fine intends to make into a franchise. The movie has an interesting plot. In ‘The Catalyst’ a couple, challenged with fertility problems, finally have the daughter they longed for, but as a child the daughter is killed in a freak accident. After several years the couple is blessed with another daughter. When the girl turns the same age at which they lost the first daughter, strange paranormal activity begins to plague the family. The smallest accident, the drop of
