Gary Dauberman Sinks His Teeth Into The New ‘Salem’s Lot’ Adaptation

Almost exactly a year ago we reported that James Wan would be producing a new take on Stephen King’s vampire novel Salem’s Lot. We informed you back then that Gary Dauberman (IT, Annabelle Comes Home) would be penning the script. Now, news has come (via THR) that Dauberman will also be in the director’s chair. Published in 1975, Salem’s Lot centers on a writer who returns to his childhood home, the town of Jerusalem’s Lot where he discovers there’s a vampire plaguing the town. Dauberman had this to say last year: I did have a unique way into it but again, I think the book in itself is unique,” Dauberman told Slash Films. “I haven’t seen a scary vampire movie in a long, long time and I’d really love to tackle that. ‘IT: Chapter Two’ Is Over Two Hours Long

Director Andy Muschietti‘s IT: Chapter Two will soon be arriving in theaters, but there’s something you should know, the movie is long. When I say long, I mean 2 hours and 45 minutes. That’s right, 2 hours and 45 minutes, which is unheard of for a horror movie (not that we’re complaining). The movie picks up twenty-seven years after the Losers Club faced Pennywise. The kids are now grown up and have moved on their lives, at least they thought they had. After receiving a devastating hone call the club returns home and must fight the creature once again. Written by Gary Dauberman, the film stars Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie, James McAvoy as Bill, James Ransone as Eddie, Andy Bean as Stanley, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike and Jay Ryan as Ben. Xavier Dolan is Adrian Mellon, Teach Grant as bully Henry Bowers, with Will Beinbrink as Tom Rogan, and Jess Weixler as Bill’s wife. Bill

Gary Dauberman Says Salem’s Lot Will Stay True To King’s Story

One concern of Stephen King fans is if an adaptation (and there’s a bunch) will adhere to the source material. Screenwriter Gary Dauberman eased those worries today when he confirmed that his and James Wan‘s upcoming adaptation of King’s novel Salem’s Lot will be as faithful to the original tale as possible. The IT and Annabelle Comes Home writer had this to say: I like to be as true to the story as I possibly can until it gets a little too unwieldly for a movie. I’m very, very excited to be a part of that and tackle it. It hasn’t had the big screen treatment yet, which is how I felt about it. It’s so fun to play around with vampires and make something trulys cary with vampires. I haven’t seen that in a long, long time, and I’m excited for people to see it.” While the 1979 Tobe Hooper-directed TV adaptation of King’s novel was scary, it was
