Goosebumps for Goosebumps: The Game

If you were between the ages of 7-15 in the mid-90’s, you’ll no doubt have fond memories of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. It started with Welcome to Dead House back in ’92, a television series from ’95-’98, and has now made it’s way as a feature film due out in just over a week. On top of all that, WayForward has developed a game based on the series to coincide with the movie’s release. While most of WayForward’s games have been platformers, Goosebumps will be a Point-and-Click horror mystery – which reminds me a lot of the Choose Your Own Adventure style Goosebumps books. It seems like it will take you all over the Goosebumps world, encountering all our favourite creatures of the past. It’s got a cool cartoon art style, which is excellent for such a franchise. Rated E, it fits in nicely somewhere between fun and cartoony while still achieving the creepiness and scares Goosebumps is known for.

Romero’s Aftermath Has A Shaky Start

George C. Romero, son of the man that brought the living dead to our screen 47 years ago, has teamed up with Free Reign Entertainment for a free-to-play zombie survival MMO – but don’t get your hopes up. I am not one to ever disparage anyone for doing something they love, but with mostly negative Steam reviews, and as far as I can tell a developer with no official site, it’s hard to put a lot of trust into it. While it’s still only just come out of Beta testing, reviews state that it’s essentially a rehash of Infestation: Survivor Stories – a game that went through multiple name changes and was critically panned for being chock full of micro transactions and bugs. Which makes a bit of sense considering the development teams are made up of mostly the same people, and lead by Sergey Titov. While Aftermath does have it’s share of bugs and micro transactions, it also adds

Get Ready To NOCT Your Socks Off

Ever wanted a 2D top-down online multiplayer survival horror? Well, your wish has come true with Noct. Highly stylized and reminiscent of games like Alien Swarm or Hotline Miami, Noct pits you against a dark force, known as Nocturnal, that has wiped out most of human civilization and turned the Earth into a desolate wasteland devoured by darkness. However, the nightmarish beasts conjured by this endless night aren’t the only enemies you will face, as there will be other players to compete with. Sure you can team up with them, but in a world overrun with evil, it’s every person for themselves. Noct switches things up with the way it looks by making it look as though you are watching the scenario through thermal imaging, giving you a fairly limited range of sight that can easily be overwhelmed by the monsters that lurk around corners – and with only one life, you would be wise to explore with caution. Adding

SOMA Hits PC and PS4

If you ever played Amnesia: The Dark Decent and were a fan, you’ll be happy to know that Frictional Games’ latest horror endeavour, SOMA, is now available on Steam and the PS4 Network. Imagine if Bioshock and Amnesia had a baby, and then Alien: Isolation and Outlast had a baby, then those two babies grew up and met each other, fell madly in love, and had a baby of their own, that would be SOMA. And that’s not a bad thing. It takes the isolation elements of, well, Isolation, and merges them with the defenceless puzzle elements of Amnesia and Outlast, all taking place in an underwater base called PATHOS-II – much like Bioshock’s Rapture. You will have to outwit a range of enemies, such as corrupt robots, insane humans, and your own sense of reality as you try to bring power back to the facility and escape your potential demise. The dark, haunting depths of the ocean are a

‘Night Terrors’ An Augmented Reality Game

Video game technology has evolved and continues to evolve in amazing ways. Fans of horror games have been waiting for a truly immersive game that allows them to become part of a games’ story. There is a new game from developer Bryan Mitchell, titled ‘Night Terrors’, referred to as “augmented reality” game, that takes “immersive” to a whole new level, by putting ghosts and creatures in your own home. ‘Night Terrors’ scans and maps out your location, then makes your screen come alive with terrifying sites and sounds Your location truly becomes the back drop for the game. Just imagine walking down your hallway when a ghost pops out or when that old painting hanging behind your sofa suddenly comes to life. You may be left with night terrors, for real. There are no gaming systems to buy, all you need is your phone and the ability to withstand the urge to sleep with the lights on. ‘Night Terrors’ is
