Roku In Negotiations To Acquire Quibi’s Original Library

Back in October of 2020, we reported the sudden and surprising shut down of the streaming network Quibi after less than a year of operation. Subscribes were upset by the loss of Quibi’s original series and were left wondering if they’d ever get to see them again. News has come this morning via Variety that Roku is now in negotiations to acquire the service’s original library. If the deal goes through Roku will add the short-form programming to their ever-expanding service. There is no word yet exactly which programs Roku will be getting but some of the series we are hoping to see are Sam Raimi’s “50 States of Fright,” “Don’t Look Deeper, “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue“, the rideshare horror “The Stranger“, “Most Dangerous Game” (Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz), the dark comedy “Flipped” (Will Forte and Kaitlin Olson), and the plane-crash series “Survive” (Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins). We’ll keep you posted.

Quibi Is Pulling The Plug After Just Seven Months

After just seven months, the streaming service Quibi is closing thanks to reportedly low viewership, a horde of technical problems, and a nasty lawsuit, according to the Wall Street Journal. Designed as a service meant to be watched on-the-go on your phone, Quibi was the home of Sam Raimi’s “50 States of Fright” which explores stories based on urban legends from every state, taking viewers deeper into the horrors that lurk just beneath. This also means that “Don’t’ Look Deeper will end and Tomie from Alexandre Aja will no longer happen, at least not on Quibi. “The Stranger” starring Maika Monroe and Dane DeHaan will also be dead in the water. Quibi really did offer some great series and we’re sad to see them go. We hope that the series and movies all find a new home. There has been no announcement at this time exactly when Quibi will pull the plug, but when they do we’ll let you know.

“Don’t Look Deeper” Series Premiering On Quibi

Quibi has announced the July premiere of their sci-fi thriller series “Don’t Look Deeper.” “Set in Merced, California, “fifteen minutes into the future,” “Don’t Look Deeper” centers on a high school senior who can’t seem to shake the feeling that something about her just isn’t right. And that something is… she’s not human… not one of us. This revelation of what she really is, where she comes from, and who has started looking for her, sets in motion a series of events that suddenly put her entire life in jeopardy.” The fourteen-episode series is directed by Catherine Hardwicke who executive produces alongside showrunner and writer Jeffrey Lieber. Helena Howard, Don Cheadle, and Emily Mortimer star. Ema Horvath, Jan Luis Castellanos, Belissa Escobedo, Kaiwi Lyman, Harvey Zielinski, Harvey Guillen, Brandon Win, Kayleigh Gilbert, and Dana Gourrier round out the cast. “Don’t Look Deeper” premieres on Quibi on July 27th.
