Movie Review: Don’t Leave Home

I took a gander at the Indie Irish horror film Don’t Leave Home. Before I tell you what I thought, you should know what the film’s about. When an artist (Karrie Cox) is called upon to visit the home of a collector and commissioned to create a custom artwork she thinks that her luck may have finally changed. She couldn’t be wrong. Once she arrives at the grand home she learns that the former priest is the wealthy collector that summoned her, but not everything is at it seems. One of her sculptures represents the strange disappearance of a young girl, who had her picture painted by the priest just before she went missing. Her only contact while at the home is with the priest, the woman (Helena Bereen) who runs the home and their driver (David McSavage) who are all very strange. Out of the cast, Helena Bereen stood out the most. Her character Shelly was dark and felt

Art Meets Horror In The Supernatural Thriller Don’t Leave Home

From writer-director Michael Tully comes Don’t Leave Home, the supernatural thriller starring Anna Margaret Hollyman, Helena Bereen, Mark Lawrence, Karrie Cox, David McSavage, and Lalor Roddy. In the film, “After recently unveiling her new sculptural exhibit on Irish urban legends, artist Melanie Thomas is contacted by Father Alistair Burke, a reclusive Irish priest who, legend has it, once painted the portrait of a young girl who later disappeared on the very day her image vanished from the painting. Now, summoned by Burke and his cohort to the Irish countryside for a special art commission, Melanie eagerly accepts the offer, never stopping to consider that some urban legends might be true. Being praised as “GET OUT with Catholic guilt in the Irish countryside” (Indiewire), Don’t Leave Home proves that not all mysteries should be solved.” George Rush, Jeff Allard, Ryan Zacarias, Tristan Orpen Lynch, Aoife O’Sullivan, and Wally Hall produced. Don’t Leave Home is now out on Digital and Blu-ray, from

‘Don’t Leave Home’ Unless It’s To Catch This Film At SXSW

Writer-director Michael Tully’s Don’t Leave Home is set to make its world premiere at this year’s SXSW. Starring Anna Margaret Hollyman, Lalor Roddy, Helena Bereen, David McSavage, and Karrie Cox, the film centers on Melanie Thomas, “an American artist whose latest show recounts the infamous Irish urban legend of Father Alistair Burke, who painted a portrait of 8-year-old Siobhan Callahan in 1986. Days later, Siobhan went missing on the very morning that her figure miraculously vanished from the painting as well. Though absolved of any wrongdoing, Burke abandoned the priesthood and went into self-exile. After receiving a bad review before her opening, Melanie is contacted by the reclusive Burke, who offers to fly her to Ireland to create a new sculpture that he will help her to sell while she’s there. Telling no one where she’s going, Melanie never stops to consider that some urban legends are real.” Screenings: World Premiere: Saturday, March 10th at 1:45 pm (ZACH Theater) Public
