‘Bride Of Frankenstein’ Is Still Alive

Okay, let’s face it, we are all disappointed that the attempt to revive the golden age of horror has not gone well.. Universal Studios has all but shelved the whole Dark Universe plan. However, the gem of “The Invisible Man” has shown that there is hope! David Koepp (Jurrasic Park, Stir of Echos), who had a script penned for “The Bride of Frankenstein” remake, has told Collider : “That was one thing I did during quarantine – I brought back Bride of Frankenstein into a place where I kind of always wanted it to be. Universal was very gracious to let me try again. Because they had geared up and shut down famously in the Dark Universe fiasco. Well, not fiasco, but disappointment. So I have a version now and they have a version that we all really like. I think they’re talking to directors now…It’s not the great big, $150 million extravaganza with giant movie stars. It’s not as

James Wan Signs On For Universal Monster Movie

On the heels of Leigh Whannell’s success with Universal’s The Invisible Man, horror heavy hitter James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring franchise) has signed on to develop a monster movie for Universal Studios, THR is reporting. Wan’s Atomic Monster will be producing the currently untitled movie written by “Supernatural’s” Robbie Thompson. “Sources say the story takes its cues from Universal’s classic monster legacy and shines it through a modern prism. With shades of Disturbia, the story will focus on a group of teens who discover that a neighbor is building a monster in his basement. Spoiler: the monster gets loose.” Sounds a bit like a modern Frankenstein, doesn’t it? At this time Universal Studios has quite a few monster movies in the works, including Monster Mash and The Invisible Woman. The question is are they part of the “Dark Universe,” the revival of the Universal Monster franchise that we heard so much about a couple of years ago? Or are they

Elisabeth Moss Confirmed For Leigh Whannell’s ‘The Invisible Man’

One of the horror films we’re most looking forward to next is Leigh Whannell‘s Universal Monster reboot of The Invisible Man, which he wrote and will direct. Universal and Blumhouse are teaming up for the film which will hopefully put Universal’s Dark Universe back on track after The Mummy failed to please fans and critics back in 2017. Last month we reported that “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress Elisabeth Moss was in negotiations to star. We can now confirm that the talented actress has now officially signed. Johnny Depp was originally attached but is no longer involved with the project. In the original 1933 film, a scientist finds a way of becoming invisible, but in doing so, he becomes murderously insane. We’ve since seen the film rebooted and remade. It’s also inspired several films including 2000’s Hollow Man.

‘The Frankenstein Chronicle’ Series Coming To Netflix

While Universal Studios’s Dark Universe seems to be in limbo after their reboot of The Mummy didn’t receive the love the studio expected, but that doesn’t mean that no one else can’t take a stab at our favorite classic monster tales. Variety is reporting that the UK series ‘The Frankenstein Chronicles’ will be coming to the US via Netflix. While the series has only released six episodes to date the deal gives Netflix the chance to expand the show. Set in London in 1827, the re-imagining of Mary Shelly’s beloved novel stars ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Sean Bean as John Marlott, a war veteran, and policeman, as he investigates a corpse, found made from the parts of children. Intangled in the case are established figures and demonic forces.

Is This The End Of Universal’s Dark Universe?

Just 5 months after Universal released the first teaser image of some of the stars of their upcoming new Dark Universe film franchise the duo of Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, hired to be the architects of the universe, have exited the project according to THR. The teaser included A-list actors like Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Russel Crowe and was meant to hook fans on the revival of characters like the Invisible Man, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Unfortunately, none of the planned remakes looks to still be alive and kicking. Universal even halted the filming of Bride of Frankenstein which had already begun production in London. Reportedly, the halt was due to execs feeling that the script written by director Bill Condon wasn’t ready. After viewers failed to get wrapped up in The Mummy, the first film of the franchise, it isn’t particularly surprising that they have put the venture on hold. Universal’s president

‘Van Helsing’ Reboot Reportedly Has Chosen It’s Star

The “Dark Universe” didn’t exactly get off to a good start with The Mummy, but Universal won’t let the franchise die, with everything from The Wolfman to The Hunchback of Notre Dame getting adaptations. I’d be more shocked than Frankenstein’s Monster if even half these films actually get made, but who knows, I’m no fortune teller. Out of the five or six films slated to come out, the only one I really felt any amount of excitement for was Van Helsing. The whole concept of an international monster hunter is a neat idea, and the 2004 adaptation didn’t really do the concept justice. Well that excitement’s sunk into the Black Lagoon with the announcement that Magic Mike pretty boy Channing Tatum is reportedly up for the role. Best known for being the worst part of The Hateful Eight and being the most meh part of 21 Jump Street, Tatum’s casting shows both that Universal hasn’t learned dick from The Mummy

Universal Studios Adds Exciting New Titles To Its Dark Universe

I am more than thrilled to be able to announce that Universal Studios has added more titles to their upcoming ‘Dark Universe’ collection. Through my life I have always been drawn to the truly tragic characters in horror…the monsters who were almost forced to become that way due to their situation – or were simply misunderstood. The top three on my monster/villain list are Frankenstein’s Monster, Quasimodo, and The Phantom of the Opera. In fact, I drew so many pictures and read so many stories about these three tragic characters that my parents legitimately started to worry. We already know that Javier Barden will be playing Frankenstein’s Monster, but I cannot hide my excitement at the announcement of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ being added to the ground-breaking collection of redone horror films. Both have been played to perfection by the legendary Lon Chaney and his silent performances will be tough to beat, but
