Bigger Than Harry Knowles

Me Too A recent wave of sexual harassment allegations against Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles has moved through the film world. Knowles is accused of allegedly groping, fondling, verbally accosting and making unsolicited advances against a number of women over the years. The famed “Head Geek” of the pioneering film website announced he was taking a leave of absence placing his sister in charge of the site. This news comes on the heels of similar allegations against The Alamo Drafthouse. Online response was swift and hard, condemning the alleged actions of Harry Knowles and Drafthouse writer, Devin Faraci. Some of Knowles’s best veteran writers as Eric “Quint” Vespe have resigned their positions in protest and out of good moral conscience. The allegations continue to roll in and Knowles seems to have taken a very casual response to the scandal, calling his exile from Fantastic Fest a chance to “mind the store” and devote more time to his website. An Interview With Writer, Director, Producer Harrison Smith Of Carolco Pictures

Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Harrison Smith. Smith is a talented screen writer, director, producer and the head of Independent Genre Development at Carolco Production. KM “How did you get started in the film industry?” HS “I was ten when my uncle gave me a Super 8 camera, I made silent movies, I made a comedy series with my brother. Then I had a comedy cable show. ‘The Fields’ was my first real movie.” KM “How did ‘The Fields’ come to be?” HS “‘The Fields’ is based on what happened to me as a boy. My parents had a tumultuous relationship, so I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s farm as a kid. The farmhouse was surrounded by corn fields that went on for miles. The events depicted in the film all started with a stick. I would play Godzilla with sticks and one day I heard something in the edge of the corn field. I

Movie Review : Camp Dread (2014)

At Camp Dread nothing is what it seems to be. Campers who have legal, drug or other serious issues have been forced to go to the camp by their parents. The campers have a choice to go head to head in a competition on what they think is a reality show. The last camper standing wins one million dollars. What the campers don’t realize is that writer/director Julian Barrett played by Eric Roberts, has something more devious in mind for the teens. This movie has twists you never see coming. With a fresh idea and unique story line writer/director Harrison Smith brings back the feel of the slasher summer camp movies of the 80’s. Made on a small budget, Camp Dread still packs quite a punch. This movie is a great fit for slasher movie fans. Camp Dread stars Eric Roberts, who has had roles in over a hundred movies including The Dark Knight, The Human Centipede III and Assault
