The Nostalgia Continues! Book Review Of ‘The SNES Omnibus: The Super Nintendo And Its Games, Vol. 2’

A slow rainy day is made better with a good sit-down with a book. Luckily for me, Brett Weiss and Schiffer Publishing sent me a copy of Weiss’s latest coffee table read, The SNES Omnibus: The Super Nintendo and Its Games, Vol. 2 (N–Z). I previously reviewed volume one and my feelings towards this volume are no different. The book is laid out in the same format as the previous one where the games are listed alphabetically and include lots of pictures showing gameplay, box art, and for some of them, even the ads for the games. I’ll admit there are some kooky box arts… Just like volume 1, this is a treasure-trove of childhood flashbacks of games I remember being advertised and even movies that came out around that time…they made any movie into a video game back then! As much as I like this book (well both of them actually) I did some digging around and realized that

Review: James D’Amato’s ‘The Ultimate RPG Character Backstory Guide’ Will Have You Reaching For Dice!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of playing role-playing games (RPGs) is the ability to create an avatar of you to go on perilous adventures may they involve lifting curses, protecting villages from bandits, stealing relics from trolls, or befriending a dragon to fulfill a prophecy. Sometimes people have trouble coming up with a believable character or find it difficult to really “know” their character which may make their character not enjoyable to fellow RPG adventurers. James D’Amato’s book “The Ultimate RPG Character Backstory Guide” will help you bring your character(s) to life! After reading this book I see it’s more than a “how to” book, it’s an interactive tome that makes creating your character fun and unique! If you’re new to the whole RPG world like me, don’t be afraid of this book! Each chapter is based off skill level, just like RPG games you start from level 1 and work your way up as you gain more experience!

‘The SNES Omnibus: The Super Nintendo and Its Games’ Is A Nostalgic Treasure Map

I sat down with a hefty book for a nice afternoon of reading (Yes I DO read, I don’t play video games all the time!). I read through Brett Weiss’s “The SNES Omnibus: The Super Nintendo and Its Games, Vol. 1 (A–M)” from Schiffer Publishing. This coffee table book is amazing! The book has more than 2,000 colored images showing off the majesty of over 350 SNES titles! What is amazing about this book is how much it’s a trip down memory lane for me. I did not play SNES growing up so I missed out on a lot of these games but I remember the box art and advertising posters when I would go rent movies! A lot of the games in this book were based on TV shows I watched when I was younger and forgot about! Many of the titles shown will seem familiar to many as these were the first installments in current series played and

‘The X-Files: Cold Cases’-The Truth Is STILL Out There…In An Audiobook

The X-Files: Cold Cases is a new full-cast audio drama that launched on July 18. Last year, fans were treated to a long awaited return of the hit sci-fi show that had us all looking to the skies. The X-Files returned with 6 new episodes, and while I enjoyed them all, I felt like 6 was just enough to get us all excited again and then leave us hanging. That’s why I was thrilled to learn that Audible was releasing a new audiobook this summer set in the X-Files Universe. It’s not just any audiobook, though. X-Files: Cold Cases is a full cast drama, so you’re getting an entire production, like a modern version of the old time radio shows from the 30s and 40s. Here’s the best part, though—the cast is comprised of our favorite actors from the actual TV show! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as Mulder and Scully, Mitch Pileggi returns as Walter Skinner,

‘FLESH OF THE VOID’ Premieres New Trailer

With Principal Photography wrapped on new, experimental horror film Flesh of the Void, a first trailer has shown up online. From first time feature director James Quinn, Void is shot on a combination of expired Super 8 film stock and 16 MM in order to achieve an uncomfortable vibe (the trailer is certainly disturbing.) Flesh of the Void is “intended as a disjointed, surreal trip through the deepest and most violent fears of the human condition, depicting its subject in a radical, grotesque and raw manner, refusing to shy away from societal taboos.” Releasing sometime later in 2017, this film is looking to be one hell of a trip. https://vimeo.com/221166861?utm_source=Flesh+of+the+Void+Trailer&utm_campaign=BSM&utm_medium=email

#AmericanCarnage by Pochassic

#AmericanCarnage: Sci Fi Short Stories by Pochassic is a new short book by the author of Flesh Without Soul which I reviewed when it came out a few years ago. I was curious to see what this book offered after enjoying the other. Book Description: Sci-fi short stories from the edge of sanity, Endless Horizon, a family having a conversation at the end of the world. Enlightenment Sucks, not all sages are created equal. Pride, a heroic Janitor battles zombies. The Trial, obedience to Galactic Law is freedom. The Big Why SuperMarket, There is more going on in the frozen food aisle than you think. The book is only 22 pages long and filled with several science fiction stories. The stories aren’t related but do have an overarching theme of hopelessness as most occur in dire or dystopian situations. It makes for a very quick read (again, it’s 22 pages long), so it’s definitely worth it for Kindle Unlimited readers.

‘Z Nation’ Releases Prequel Comic – A Review Of Volume 1

Horror comics are the best aren’t they? We could definitely use more of them. If you feel the same way, we’ve got good news. Syfy’s hit zombie series Z Nation, from The Asylum, has a brand new six-part comic, titled Z Nation: Black Summer, that serves as a prequel for the show. I had the pleasure of checking out the first volume and I was not disappointed. Z Nation co-creator Craig Engler and Fred Van Lente serve as writers for the comic with fantastic art by Edu Menna and colors by Sal Aiala. Simon Bowland did the letters, and Joseph Rybandt edited with the assistance of Kevin Kitner. The volume opens with images from around the world of society as it falls to a mass epidemic that has turned much of the human race into flesh-eating zombies. Due to famine and livestock being infected by the virus, food is scarce. A group of soldiers are sent on an important mission:

The Cat In The Hat Somehow Makes The IT Trailer Even Creepier

The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about that….child murder that is! Taking a cue from the already vaguely horrifying 2003 film, famous internet mashup artist But Without has made a trailer combo for the ages, taking the recently released IT trailer and replacing all the horrifying Pennywise scenes with the somehow even more horrifying Mike Myer’s dressed as The Cat in the Hat. As both a huge IT fan (I read the book twice before I turned 13) and someone who actually really enjoys 2003’s Cat in the Hat (looking at it as a dark comedy designed to slowly drive Alec Baldwin mad makes it a lot funnier), this was the hardest I’ve found myself laughing in a long while. Truth be told, given the choice between being locked in a basement with a dancing clown or a 8 foot tall bipedal cat wielding a rusty hoe, I think I’d choose the clown.

Minstrel’s Bargain by Richard Ayre – Heart-pounding pulp horror!

Minstrel’s Bargain by Richard Ayre was a book I’d been wanting to read for quite a while. Richard has three books to his credit, the most notable of which to our readers here at Horror Fuel is Bad Neighborhood, the multi-author horror anthology I put together with the help of a Kickstarter campaign last year. With that said, going in I was only loosely familiar with the author’s work, and wasn’t quite sure of what to expect from something which promised to be “heart-pounding pulp horror”. In recent years, “pulp” has been a catch all term, and the book description didn’t give me much to go on. With that said, I know from personal experience reading and writing Richard’s work in the past that he’s an excellent writer, so I was optimistic despite the sparse description. After-all, the cover was creepy enough. Book Description: Newcastle 1988. Reporter Phil Sturgess is intrigued by an up and coming rock band. Their music

Everything you could ever want from a horror thriller is included in this anthology; from classic pulp-style fiction to cutting-edge terror, dark fantasy and everything in-between.
