DC’s upcoming digital service, named DC Universe, has ordered a script-to-series order for “Swamp Thing”, based on the comic character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Deadline is reporting. The project is from horror-heavy-hitter James Wan’s Atomic Monster, the same company behind The Conjuring universe which also includes The Nun and the Annabelle franchise. Wan also co-created Saw and the Insidious franchise. “Swamp Thing” is written by Mark Verheiden, who also penned the scripts for the “Ash vs. Evil Dead” series that just ended after its third season. Earlier this month, IDW comics released a new series called Diablo House. I’ll admit, this comic snuck up on me as I hadn’t heard much about it prior to the release. It debuted at San Diego Comic Con last month and hit the stores early in August. Let me just say from the start that I really, really liked this book. It’s a nasty look into human nature (mainly anger…), and the first issue plays on the ancient story of Faust. A man who started in a business with nothing soon gains everything his heart could ever desire, only to piss it all away during booze-soaked escapades. Not exactly a new concept, but hey–if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There are a few twists thrown in here and there to keep you turning the pages, and for me anyway, I can’t wait until next month’s issue. Diablo House feels like an old school E.C. comic. There’s a central “crypt

Hello my Little Monsters. Today I greet you with a heavy heart, since the art world has lost a legendary member of its ranks, Bernie Wrightson. Bernie had retired in January of this year, citing health issues he had experienced following brain surgery. Sadly, earlier today he lost his battle with brain cancer. Bernie got his start as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun, but it was a chance meeting with his one of his major artistic influences (and one of my personal favorites), Frank Frizetta, that inspired him to delve into comic book art. Bernie’s first endeavor for DC Comics was creating the art for a story in the March/April 1968 issue of House of Mystery (No. 179), entitled “The Man Who Murdered Himself”. Three years later Bernie would team with writer Len Wein to create arguably hist most famous creation Swamp Thing for the July 1971 issue of DC’s House of Secrets (No. 92). Bernie had done the
