Artist Spotlight: Giuseppe Balestra

A little while back I did a review of the new fantastic Ghostbusters Art Book, a collection of amazing artists paying tribute to the iconic movie. In my review, I listed some of my favorite pieces, the poster by the incredibly talented artist Giuseppe Balestra. I feel that Giuseppe’s artwork deserves a more in-depth look. Born in Rome and raised in South Italy, the artist prefers using pen and inks, cross-hatching and stippling, before eventually combining digital color, drawing inspiration from literature, movies, especially horror and fantasy. I like to create illustrations in which the darkness of the shadows stands in contrast to the light. They’ve been called “melancholic, mysterious and poetic. I’ve always loved doing art since I was a child, always experimenting with all kinds of media. I published my first work in late 2015 in The Lovecraft eZine vol.36 and since then I’ve been doing it professionally, working on internal illustrations and covers for books, posters, and

Artist Spotlight: Sean Wilson AKA OddNMacabre

A few weeks ago I came across a fantastic piece of artwork on Twitter, I immediately followed @OddNMacabre (Sean Wilson) as the days passed and Sean tweeted more of his pieces I always found myself surprised and impressed. Not only are his fan pieces great, his original artwork is fantastic. His pieces are often dark yet vibrant, sometimes creepy, but beautiful. This fall a collection of his work, titles “The Fallen” will be released. Sean remains a bit of mystery and prefers to let his work speak for it’self. He did share with me that his artwork is mainly created digitally. You can see more examples of Sean’s work, order prints and request commissions by visiting his Twitter Page and by emailing him at [email protected].

Artist Spotlight: Angel M. Velasquez

This week’s Spotlight Artist is Angel M. Velasquez. Angel was born and raised in New York City. He currently resides in Farmington, NM after retiring from active duty in the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. He makes time to sketch, doodle, paint, and compose other works of art whenever he gets the chance. He has been collecting comic related stuff all his life and is also currently working on drawing some comic books of his own. I was originally drawn to the artwork of Angel Velasquez because of his sketches of pop-culture figures, comic, and movie artwork. Angel is a truly talented artist whose works cover many genres and mediums. He has sketched iconic figures such as DC Comics’ Deadman and Lion-O from Thundercats, among many others. His artwork is also inspired by classic horror movies such as Blade, Predator, and Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead. Angel has also created many other horror related pieces, including: Cthulhu, Werewolves,
