Rumpelstiltskin: The Tragic Hero

Back in 2017 I wrote an article on Rumpelstiltskin. It was part of a collection (that is slowly ongoing) about how fairy tales are the original horror stories. In that article I called the manikin an “unheralded villain” and wrote about how he tore himself in half in rage when the queen guessed his name. But here is the question: Is Rumpelstiltskin truly evil? Is he a villain? Should he be reviled and cursed? I know that it is easy to villain-ise a little man-troll who threatens to steal children; I know that it is easy to make him a gold-mongering charlatan like in the show ‘Once Upon a Time’ (and Robert Carlyle does an amazing job); I know (as I explained in my other article) that his name is shares etymology with the word poltergeist and it’s hard to put that in a good light; I know it’s easy to fall victim to the motif of a princess always

Demo Trailer for ‘Devil’s Hunt’ Takes You To Hell

At PAX East, Layopi Games and 1c Entertainment showcased a 19-minute playthrough trailer for their upcoming hack-and-slash dark fantasy, Devil’s Hunt. The game is based on the Polish bestselling novel, Equilibrium by Paweł Leśniak that’s part of a trilogy following the story’s anti-hero, Desmond. Players will be taking on the role of Desmond, a man once on top of the world but who fell on hard times resulting in him to literally make a deal with the Devil and become his executioner. Desmond will have to make a choice on where his allegiance truly lies as he’ll have to pick his battles to either fight Angels or Demons, the outcome would determine humankind’s fate. The Devil’s Hunt gameplay trailer showcases the powers Desmond will have and the kind of foes he will face in Hell, Jerusalem, and Miami. Desmond will be coming (and Hell’s coming with him) to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later in 2019.

Sony To Reboot ‘The Crow’

I remember being blown away by ‘The Crow’ (1994) and I felt akin to the anti-hero seeking revenge for his and his girlfriend’s murder. However, the sequels were slightly…well…extremely underwhelming. This is why horrorfuel.com is excited to announce that Sony is going to try their hand at making ‘The Crow: Reborn’. Deadline just announced that the studio is giving James O’Barr’s beloved comic another chance. But this time, they’re going to stay more loyal to the source material. His film is the ‘Macbeth’ of cinema. It has been plagued with setbacks and tragedy (most notably the death of Brandon Lee during the filming of the original). Jason Momoa was rumoured to be taking the title role, but now that he is busy with ‘Auquaman’ there is no confirmation if he is still attached to the project. Obviously we will keep you posted right here!
