James Wan’s ‘Malignant’ Scores A Hard “R” Rating

Horror heavy hitter James Wan‘s new horror film Malignant was supposed to hit theaters back in August but found itself another victim of the pandemic like many other films, but it’s on its way and has just scored an “R” rating for “Strong horror violence, gruesome images, and for language.” The plot details for Malignant are still being kept quiet. Wan does have a comic that is titled Malignant Man, but there has been no word if the two are connected. We do however know that the movie is part of the Giallo sub-genre, which usually features scenes of excessive violence and blurs the lines between art and exploitation cinema. Maddie Hasson, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, Ingrid Bisu, George Young, Michole Briana White, and Jacqueline McKenzie star. Wan is directing and producing under his Atomic Monster banner. Akela Cooper and JT Petty penned the script based on a story by Wan and Ingrid Bisu. In Wan’s Malignant Man comic, “granted

Blu-Ray Review: The Silencing – Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” stars as Rayburn, a reformed hunter who now manages a wildlife reserve named after his missing daughter in The Silencing, from director Robin Pront. While checking his game cameras he notices something odd, a man in a gili suit hunting a young woman. As you watch The Silencing, written by Micah Ranum, mysteries, crimes, murders, and motives unfold. While some have selfish motives to keep their silence and their distance Rayburn is relentless where his daughter is concerned. He is not giving up. When it comes to the movie’s villain, there’s a twist, which I won’t ruin for you. This isn’t some bumbling moron with a rifle. This killer is calculating, smart, well-armed,

Movie Review: “The Silencing”

Director Robin Pront’s serial killer thriller The Silencing is chock full of genre-film tropes and red herrings, but solid performances and crisp cinematography help raise the film to the level of being a perfectly serviceable thriller. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones; Headhunters) stars as Rayburn, an alcoholic former hunter who has transformed his old hunting grounds into a wildlife sanctuary. He is emotionally haunted by the disappearance of his daughter five years earlier. He sees someone heavily disguised on one of his trail cams hunting down a frightened, bleeding young woman and goes in pursuit. The other main character is Sheriff Alice Gustafson, played by Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle; Peaky Blinders). She is so protective of her younger, screw-up brother that she is willing to go beyond just bending the law to keep him out of further trouble. As astute readers might guess, Rayburn and Gustafason cross paths in their mutual quest to determine the identity of the killer and stop
