The Gore-Filled Trailer Drops for ‘The Cycle’ After Scoring Praise from Stephen King

Horror icons Stephen King and Mick Garris have lent their endorsements to the newly released official trailer for The Cycle. It’s the latest original feature coming to Shudder. Filmmaker Jordan Downey, known for The Head Hunter and V/H/S/Beyond, directs the film. The film has already captured the attention of genre royalty. King publicly raved that The Cycle merges the claustrophobic dread of The Thing with the psychological intensity of The Silence of the Lambs. He’s deemed it a genuinely terrific fright flick. Garris echoed that praise, describing it as an over-the-top, unrelenting celebration of practical special effects that horror purists are bound to admire. A Dark Supernatural Mystery and an Unsettling Premise The story centers on a deeply disturbing discovery that plunges its protagonist into a waking nightmare. Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) stars as an estranged daughter who is shocked when law enforcement discovers a body at the site of a gruesome crime. It’s revealed that it is her father

True Crime Docuseries “The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story” Will Soon Haunt HBO

Listen up, true crime fans, there’s a new series you don’t want to miss, “The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story.” The new three-part true-crime docuseries comes from two-time Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn and Emmy Award-winning producer Jonathan Chinn. Helmed by director Philip Cairney, the series investigates the gruesome, unsolved murder of Dorothy Thompson. The story centers on the owner of a local pet cemetery in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Blending true crime with atmospheric Southern Gothic folklore, the series unravels a tangled web of small-town secrets, lost evidence, and otherworldly encounters. And the story that continues to haunt the parish decades later. A Gruesome Murder in St. Bernard Parish In 1985, the quiet community of St. Bernard Parish was shaken to its core when Dorothy Thompson’s body was pulled from the cold waters of the Mississippi River. As the owner and operator of the local pet cemetery, Thompson was well known. But the grounds she tended had long carried a

Sensation Over Substance: Ryan Murphy Fails with Monster: Lizzie Borden

The fourth installment of Ryan Murphy’s true-crime anthology has arrived with “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.” And true to form, historical fidelity takes a back seat to grand cinematic spectacle. Rather than delivering a grounded exploration of the infamous 1892 Fall River ax murders, Murphy opts for sensationalized drama, exaggerated psychosexual tropes, and timeline manipulation. While long-time viewers of the franchise have come to expect artistic license over forensic accuracy, the sheer volume of historical liberties taken in this season creates a vast divide between the real-life figures and their screen counterparts. The Real Lizzie Borden vs. Murphy’s Caricature The most glaring departure in the series lies in the characterization of Lizzie Borden herself. Murphy frames Lizzie as an isolated, bumbling, and deeply bizarre outcast who spends her days lurking in the family parlor. The historical record paints a drastically different picture. The real Lizzie was an active, well-regarded member of her community. She served in local social clubs, held

‘Deathgasm II: Goremageddon’ Swaps Heart and Humor for Unrelenting Splatter

The long-awaited sequel to 2015’s cult horror-comedy hit Deathgasm has finally made its way to theaters and digital platforms. After a high-profile festival run featuring stops at Fantastic Fest, Sitges, BIFAN, and Fantaspoa, Deathgasm II: Goremageddon promises fans a return to the heavy metal demon apocalypse. However, while the original film struck a satisfying balance between endearing underdog humor, headbanging metal anthems, and creative practical gore, this second offering trades much of its charming heart for pure, unadulterated nastiness. Resurrecting the Band for One Last Battle Years after surviving the original film’s bloodbath, Brodie (Milo Cawthorne) finds himself washed up, broke, and rotting in small-town purgatory. A desperate lifeline appears when the legendary NoizeQuest battle-of-the-bands competition rolls into town. His drummer is missing an arm, and the rest of his bandmates are completely dead. Armed with lingering pages from

Go Behind the Scenes to Witness How Resident Evil’s “Rat King” Was Brought to Life

Bringing a multi-limbed, rolling mass of zombified flesh to life required a uniquely artistic approach. Instead of relying on motion-capture suits in front of a green screen, Resident Evil director Zach Cregger and stunt coordinator Jakub Hudlický used real people. They recruited a dedicated ensemble from Czech studio Movement Productions to animate the creatures, including the “Rat King.” The group consisted of highly trained contemporary dancers and contortionists.  All with the physical control to move as a singular, undulating organism. To mimic a human “rat king,” the performers were rigged together using custom multi-point harness systems and flexible webbing. Rehearsals focused on disorienting locomotion, training the dancers to crawl, roll, and reach in asymmetric rhythms. So the multi-armed mass moved with an unnatural, jarring cadence. This tactile foundation gave the creature organic weight and a center of gravity during physical set interactions. Digital physics often fails to replicate it. Watch the behind-the-scenes look to see how the creature was brought
