We Need To Talk About Michael

News of Jamie Lee Curtis’s return to the long-running Halloween franchise almost broke the Internet a few weeks ago. Some online posts were akin to The Beatles US arrival or the announcement of The Force Awakens. Blumhouse has taken the reigns and hopes to run with it. Part of this Cynema post asks, “to where?” There is nothing wrong with what Blumhouse is doing. Films get made, they get sequels, they get remakes. Hats off to any franchise that lasts forty years and remains relevant. However, there are a number Cynema-like elements to this. While everyone gushes about what this means to horror, I am going to look at just what this means to horror. Fan Reaction Details trickled in not long after the initial euphoria. Would this new film ignore the events after Carpenter’s original ’78 film? The news of Judy Greer joining the new film as Laurie Strode’s daughter sent a new wave of concern among online nerd-dom.

Bigger Than Harry Knowles

Me Too A recent wave of sexual harassment allegations against Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles has moved through the film world. Knowles is accused of allegedly groping, fondling, verbally accosting and making unsolicited advances against a number of women over the years. The famed “Head Geek” of the pioneering film website announced he was taking a leave of absence placing his sister in charge of the site. This news comes on the heels of similar allegations against The Alamo Drafthouse. Online response was swift and hard, condemning the alleged actions of Harry Knowles and Drafthouse writer, Devin Faraci. Some of Knowles’s best veteran writers as Eric “Quint” Vespe have resigned their positions in protest and out of good moral conscience. The allegations continue to roll in and Knowles seems to have taken a very casual response to the scandal, calling his exile from Fantastic Fest a chance to “mind the store” and devote more time to his website. There’s Nowhere To Hide At Busch Gardens Tampa’s Howl-O-Scream

Last Friday marked the opening night for Busch Gardens Tampa’s Howl-O-Scream event. The annual Halloween event is scheduled to run on select nights from September 22 to October 29. I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to the event’s media night last Thursday for a sneak preview of one of the new haunted houses available this year. You can see a video of my complete walk-through of the house at the end of this article, as well as a short interview with one of the event’s creative managers. But before you jump straight to the video, I thought I’d give you an overview of the different houses and various other elements that make up the event. The theme for this year’s event is “Nowhere To Hide,” and that becomes pretty obvious as even the tram ride from the parking lot to the front gate is full of ghouls and various other unsavory characters. But come on, you’re not going

‘Something’s Awry Productions’ Are Here! Don’t Miss Them At FilmQuest Film Festival

There are a lot of projects that come to Horrorfuel. Some look really cool and exciting and the odd one looks a little…not quite as exciting. However, there is no exaggeration in my extreme interest and excitement for ‘Something’s Awry Productions’ short films that I was just lucky enough to watch the trailers for. I have to admit, I was hooked with the opening tag and loved every second of the trailer. My only wish is that I could have watched the entire films! Luckily, you get that chance! Provo, UT, September 7, 2017 – Something’s Awry Productions will screen two animated shorts, ‘MARY & MARSHA IN THE MANOR OF MADNESS’ and ‘THE GIFT OF THE WOODS’, at the FilmQuest Film Festival on Friday September 15th.
