American Revenant: The Monster in Man by John L. Davis IV

American Revenant: The Monster in Man by John L. Davis IV is the newest addition to the American Revenant series and is available on Kindle Unlimited and for purchase through Amazon. When I had the chance to read the third installment in this doomsday prepping approach to the zombie apocalypse, I couldn’t say no! Especially since this installment promised to be the most intense volume, yet. Book Description: The third installment in the “American Revenant” series follows a community of doomsday prepping families through the devastation of the zombie apocalypse. The survivors have already lost much in their search for a safe haven. In the midst of the devastation, they have begun to realize just how much they have left to lose. Follow Gordon and the others as they struggle to gather more resources and fortify their new dwellings. Although they can grow food and purify caught rainwater, they have begun to realize that there are some things they simply

John Lepper On His New Record Setting Comic ‘We Kill The Dead’

John Lepper, film producer, writer, special effects makeup artist and horror fan, is now working on a comic titled ‘We Kill The Dead’. There is something very special about this comic, it will hold the record for most cameos by characters in horror films, supernatural characters to be exact. Not only will the comic have a ton of familiar characters, it will also have a few new ones as well. Unlike in some comic cameos, Lepper has permission to use the characters he’s featuring. And there are a lot of them, 22 to be exact. The list includes Reeker from ‘No Man’s Land’, Thorn from the film ‘Slasher House’, Dollman (Methodic), Mary Mattock (Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet), Verden Fell (FrightWorld), Jonah (Jonah Lives), Jack-O (Jack-O), Evil Highlander (Redwood Massacre), Stitches (Stitches), BBK (Gutterballs) and Black Night from the film ‘Dead of Knight’, just to name a few. Lepper is also in the process of writing a novel

Preview: Alterna Comics’ Corktown

Alterna Comics has just announced that a new three issue mini-series called Corktown will debut in the Spring of 2016. The comic was co-created by Mario Candelaria, Scott Ewen, and Dave Ganjamie. Candelaria will serve as the writer. Ewen will do the line work and Ganjamie is providing the tones and shading; as well as, colors for the covers. It is about the ghost of a recently deceased Detroit PD detective who is trying to destroy a blood thirsty killer that happens to be her own reanimated corpse. It was described as “a twist on vampires and ghosts set in the gloriously tragic backdrop of a Detroit winter.” I am already excited about this comic and can’t wait for it to debut. While we wait for Corktown to debut, check out Alterna Comics’ website, Twitter, and Facebook page for more news and comic announcements as they celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Cynema: Based On A True Story (Sort Of)

Inspired By True Events “Based On A True Story” “Based On True Events” “Most Of What You Are About to See Is True” “Some Of This Is Bullshit” “The Names Have Been Changed, Certain Dialogue Has Been Made Up” “We Have An Agenda And We Want to Entertain You” “You’ve Become So Ignorant to Real Events, You Wouldn’t Know What Was Real Anyway. Just Go With It” The Los Angeles Times recently ran a disturbing article on an equally disturbing trend quietly seeping into filmmaking. It’s been for some time, but as the general population falls into a deeper sleep, it’s almost imperceptible. The article is found HERE. The focus was the acclaimed “biopic” on Steve Jobs and is the latest film to take swipes at a dead man unable to defend himself. History is told by the winner. Or the one’s who control the information. Columbus Day has come under revisionist fire, seen as the celebration of a man

Review: She Walks in Shadows

She Walks In Shadows edited by Silvia Moreno-Garcia & Paula R. Stiles is very different from many of the books I’ve reviewed for Zombie Apocalypse Defense Force, before. It’s an anthology put out by an independent press which aspires to tell the stories of female authors whose works relate to or take place in the universe established by H.P. Lovecraft. Any horror fan worth their salt is familiar with Lovecraft’s work, so seeing the premise was enough to get me interested. The kind folks at Innsmouth Free Press were kind enough to send a copy of the book my way to review, and I am eager to share my thoughts with all of you. Book Description They emerge from the shadows, to claim the night …. Women from around the world delve into Lovecraftian depths, penning and illustrating a variety of Weird horrors. The pale and secretive Lavinia wanders through the woods, Asenath is a precocious teenager with an attitude,

An Open Letter to New Line “Cynema”: Take A Stab At Something Different

To: New Line Cinema From: B Harrison Smith Re: Friday the 13th: Tommy Jarvis vs. Jason Vorhees Make Tommy vs. Jason. You’re sitting a goldmine. I am told the rights to Friday the 13th are a mess. Paramount owns some, you own some. Some are parceled out to TV while the films retain others and the characters. I’ve heard one tale that both studios share custody over the franchise like a divorced couple. I have no idea if this is true. What I do know is that the ownership of rights has become so convoluted that no one seems to have a definitive answer. The legal octopus is strangling you from making another killing and I’m willing to bet it could be straightened out. At the risk of shooting myself in the foot and giving away my thoughts for someone to steal, here is a proposal to get Jason out of development hell. I attended two meetings in Los Angeles

Psycho II…The Slasher Dodges a Bullet

Norman Bates Is Coming Home… Summer, 1983. No Internet. No DVD extras. No “sneak peaks.” There were a handful of magazines to get your entertainment and especially your horror news and Fangoria was mine. I got my first subscription in 1980 and kept it through most of high school. At one point my mother asked me, “Are you sure you don’t want Playboy or something?” Unlike Norman Bates, I had plenty of girlfriends. Boobs I could see any time, but horror? That was serious shit and it came in the mail addressed to me. The slasher film dominated 80s horror. Carpenter’s Halloween hit in 1978 and the original Friday the 13th was ripping off at its heels, and both birthed franchises that spanned an entire decade and beyond. Psychopaths with knives and a variety of tools populated movie houses and late night cable. Most horror scholars will acknowledge the sub genre was peaking around 1983. Friday the 13th was winding
