Whenever a horror film arrives floating on a massive wave of hype, I tend to approach it cautiously. But last night, I dimmed the lights, grabbed a bag of popcorn, and pressed play on Paramount Pictures’ Passenger. What followed was a heart-pounding, highway-bound nightmare that far exceeded my high expectations.

Directed by visionary filmmaker André Øvredal, this supernatural thriller delivers relentless cinematic dread that hits as fast and hard as an oncoming semi-truck.

Van-Life Turns Demonic

The adrenaline-fueled plot follows a young couple embarking on what should be the ultimate picturesque van-life adventure. However, their dream getaway spirals into madness after they witness a gruesome, fatal car crash on a desolate stretch of road. But before they can process the tragedy, a relentless demonic stalker locks onto their trail. This punges them into a desperate battle against an unholy entity that cannot be outrun. The film sets its nerve-shredding stage with a terrifying statistic: out of the roughly 130 million people who hit the open road each year, over 15,000 vanish without a trace.

Horror Heavyweights and Standout Performances

Working from a razor-sharp script penned by Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess, Passenger showcases incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera. Lead stars Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life) and Lou Llobell (Foundation) anchor the film’s emotional core with remarkable chemistry. Llobell delivers a chilling, intensely authentic performance grounded in raw terror. Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter) adds serious gravitas to the ensemble. Behind the scenes, titan horror producers Gary Dauberman and Walter Hamada team up with executive producer Jenny Hinkey to orchestrate a masterclass in modern suspense, building nerve-wracking tension in every frame.

The Final Verdict: Buckle Up

Passenger took me completely by surprise with its fresh narrative spin, brilliant pacing, and suffocating atmosphere. It left me double-checking my rearview mirror long after the screen went dark.

Landing on Blu-ray and DVD on September 8th and streaming now on Paramount+, Passenger is the perfect terrifying addition to any physical media collection. Buckle up, keep the headlights on, and put Passenger at the top of your horror watchlist.
